Default Looking for a Belt tensioner-84 Corvette

I need a belt tensioner. Not the pulley alone but the entire spring assembly. My local GM dealer tells me the part is obsolete and no one carries it. I find it hard to believe that this tensioner was significant to only 84 Corvettes in that year. Does anyone know of an interchange that will show other models of GM cars in 84 this tensioner will fit ?. The GM part number of the tensioner is # 14055164. Thanks, Bob

You can try autozone, advance auto parts, o'rilleys. they generally carry things like that. It mitenot be ac delco, but its cheaper. But sometimes you pay for what you get.

I checked three of my standbys, TLD, Rock and Advance. Nada. Funny that no one lists anything.

Thanks for the info. I have tried alot of places but no luck as well. I will get with a buddy who works in a wrecking yard. They have alot of interchange manuals. I still believe the tensioner on my 84 is not unique to it only. There has to be an olds or Buick or some other GM car in 84 that used the same tensioner assembly. I think the $20.00 item mentioned is the pulley only. It is okay on mine. The tensioner spring tension is the problem. Thanks, Bob L

You might try an 84 Z/28 or Trans Am with the CF motor.I dont think you will find it in anything else.

Have you tried http://www.vette2vette.net/ ??

Great guy to work with, and he's a supporting vendor.

The tensioner you need is part#14055164.Yes,it is specific to a 1984 Corvette for some strange reason. And it is nolonger avalible from GM.Do an internet search for that number and you will find one.You must buy it as a unit with pulley for around a $100.00 bucks, good luck.

A 5 1/2 year old thread! I wondered where someone got the $100 price for it!!

It is "NUTTED" on the back-side of the bracket!!
