I am a major fan of the black wheels as long as they have a polished lip. On the ZR-1's, the thin polished lip looks best. On the C5 ZO6 motorsport black wheels, i like the fat polished lip. Just depends on the style but yes, Jeff's car is straight up SICK the way it is set up!

Nice write up, and great pics.
I am going to do this to my 96 CE soon. I was thinking about putting an Xtreme suspension kit from MAM in place instead (includes bigger front sway bar, a rear sway bar, and stiffer springs).. but given the huge cost, I will probably follow your instructions instead and look at adding a rear sway bar in the future.
Thanks for all the info!
On a side note...
I live in Arizona as well. Who do you use for your window tinting?

Or you can add some ground effects and get the same look while filling the hole I think exists down the sides of C 4s.
I wanted side pipes but they aren't making them for C 4s anymore.
The car looks great but I would tear it up on our streets.

Jeff was really helpful before I lowered my car.I lowered mine with an adjustable front spring and 12 inch rear bolts.I got everything from VBandP.I trimmed the front spoiler by about 5/8 of an inch.Whats a speed bump?[IMG][/IMG]

Can you elaborate on this "adjustable front spring"? Last time I looked into this you had to cut
off and glue back on the rubber ends on the spring to lower the front or get coil overs. Is there a
new spring one can get now? I'd really like to do this but hate to ruin the original stuff. Looks
great by the way

Which springs did you get? Did you notice a difference in handling?

Hey I was wondering if you would mind sharing with me what brand and size tires you have on your Vette? They are awesome and really help the wheels stand out! I have a '95 Camaro Z28 with the ZR1 wheels and would like these tires. I have 17x9.5 fronts and 17x11 in the rear. Would you mind helping me out? Thanks!

I think I'm the only one that saw your message to date, probably because it's an old post.
We use 315/35 in the back and 275/40 up front on the C4 ZR-1. Some tire manufactures do not match the real 315 size like Sumitomo which are actually narrower. As for which brand, not sure what he use, but I'm a big fan of the Toyo R888. I use them on my track prep. Porsche Turbo which great result and wanted to get a set for my ZR-1 before I sold it last fall. But a great choice for a street/perf. tire, Nitto have 2 great choices.
Hope I helped a bit!?

Hey guys,
New here. Sorry to revive this thread, but I am not sure I follow what exactly has been done to lower the 96.
From what I understand, you guys completely shaved off the rubber bloc from the top of the spring and did not use a wedge? What protects your spring against the frame?
Is the lowering height a direct ratio between what amount you take off the rubber block on spring?
I also noticed there are 2 "layers" on the spring pads (end of spring on lower control arm). Can one of them be taken off for additional lowering if some meat was left on the spring rubber block?
Thanks, I know its a lot of questions for an old model and all has been said and done on these things, but it's new to me.
This place is an incredible source of info.
I have a 95 coupe BTW...
Cheers!

I'm a little late to this thread, but if you go to my build thread in the link below I showed how to build your own rear lowering kit for cheap, its about halfway down the page:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1591923853
you can buy the bolts from Fastnel online.
I went with coilovers on the front.
couple pics of how the car sits (with my old wheels)
Hope that helps.

Looking good
Thx.
I'm not sure of the exacts on how much lower it is but...alot. Here's an old pic before lowering...you tell me:
Attachment 48165947
and after:
Attachment 48165948
Significant difference!
I have the Grandsport wheels on mine; the fronts are 285/40/17 on 9.5" wheels & the rears are 315/35/17 on 11" wheels. Not sure on the back spacing but it's the standard backspacing for LTx vettes (other than the ZR-1).

I'm asking because OFFSET is so important. Do you know what it is?
My offset is like +30 on 18x9/10 and they stick out so far I had to raise the Vette 1/4" to keep it from rubbing.
rim size isn't a important as overall diameter. I found 305 30/ 19 tires that'll work fine. It's the width that has me concerned. Thanks
