Need Help... Heater Core on a 93 Coupe
Well, I've been reading around the forums alot and this is my conclusion.
My passenger side leaks coolant all over the floor mat (And my GF's shoes). It has gotten hot when I have the AC on and I'm stuck in traffic, real hot.
My windshield gets fogged up when the cars off, and my heater doesn't work.
I live in southern California so it's not like I ever need the heater either way.
Anyways, if this is indeed the problem... How much would it cost to get it fixed? (1993 Base Coupe)
An estimate at best.
I am a fulltime college student and I work, so I simply do not have the time or the skills to do this my self.
I read a couple of posts where people were quoted around 350+.
I also noticed they sell some on ebay? How are they? Could I purchase the part on ebay and take it to a shop so I can get the job done for less?
Here's the list of Heater Cores available on ebay

Try www.gmpartsdirect.com.
The heater core is difficult to replace, i've never had to do it but it is buried deep in the passenger side dash. You have to drain the coolant and remove a lot of stuff to get to it. $350 sounds cheap considering the labor and materials that goes into the repair, I would expect it to cost a lot more if you have someone do it for you.

$350 is cheap considering the work involved and honestly Id doubt it could be done for that amount. If your somewhat mechanically inclined.. take off the roof, remove the passenger seat lay on your back and get to work. Its an all day job. The cores themselves are not that expensive but I suggest replaceing the heater hoses as well. If you simply cant get to it or afford it right now. Just loop the heater hose at the water pump and bypass the core. At least you wont have a leak but also no heat. GC

You are looking at about $700-$ 800 to have a shop do it!
I would rather eat glass, however it is doable if you are some what of a gear head.
It took me three (3) days on my 89, but that included going to retreive tools that I had thrown.

Thanks for the help guys.
I took my car in and I was quoted a 5 hour job, not good of course.
So I had them bypass it for me for about 50 bucks, that also included getting my fluids topped off and cheaking for leaks. Recently, I've found little drops of what I thought was oil on the floor of my garage.
Turned out to be Power steering fluid, I apparently have a leak in my line.
All in all, it's great news for me. I was stressed out thinking I was going to have to dish out hundreds of dollars when I've never even used my heater (Southern California).
