Default I'll have to wait you,i'll beat you by 3 cars !

I have a good friend, who has some college knowledge on mechanics, but its general, its not on v8 engines and i dont like what they teach you,the real knowledge its acquired by experience....
well, here is what' going on He is building an old cool dodge, which originally came with a six inline engine, but he is throwing a 1979 SBC and they added a 4bbl carb,a truck transmission which he said it has "short" shifts and he is modifyin suspension and more stuff.-
You might be thinking that its a cool job,i think its not,he is not replacing the piston/rings he only throw a cam that will give him "60hp"
and he won't change the valve springs oh ...and 30 more with the 4bbl,so we have 90 plus the 210hp from the stock engine,it will be a 300 hp car and will blow my old 87 TPI with 240hp anywhere anytime.-

My 87 its really strong, these days,i will be installing the new Bosch III injectors, all new raybestos clutches for the tranny, transpak, and a 2400 torque converter.-

Why in the hell he thinks or like to pretend he will beat me?
they are throwing all the stuff like it is,no machining job at all
i wonder what's on his head,i can't wait to beat him
but i will put some money on the hood.-
when i did my 355 i replaced every detail,we cleaned everything
we were watching every detail,i don't know how in the hell
my friend really thinks he can beat my 87.-

Do you know people like that ????? tell us our experiences
and last but not least...do you think he'll beat me ?

ps : the thread title its true...he told me " I'll have to wait you,i'll beat you by 3 cars ! "

Bolt on power does not add up linearly. If it did, I would have an extra 100HP just from installing all those catalog bolt on gadgets.

Even if he does end up with 300 hp, the weight of that old Dodge will slow it down so bad that you will have time for a sandwich before he gets to the finish line.

Throw some twisty curves in the mix and you could have a 7 course meal.

I was surprised because I travel to Buenos Aires many times a year and I've yet to see one Corvette there.
Plenty of Ford falcons and old style chevy Novas tho....oh yes, also beautifully preserved ramblers.

Ah yes,but Argentina its a different thing, lots of old cars there
Here in Chile for some reason there are 1% old cars and the rest is 2000-up
which i dont like ! Not many Corvettes,im the only C4 in the city, there is another but has been parked for years, other cities have more thou.-
But on my city,there are 2 C6s.-

Careful there Sammy -- I've seen some real P.O.S. that can really move. Not taking anything away from your ride but use caution when sizing up competition. I've seen many heavy weight old carbed sleds turn 11's with some bolt ons and some tuning knowledge. When someone says "350 HP more or less" it is always MORE. Let us know how it all turns out....a video would be best.

i know what you mean, but i tell you ,its an OLD TIRED MOTOR he put in.-
he put an edelbrock performer cam and no spring change, old heads, straight from 1979
and thats all,he didnt even change pistons or nothing, its a real old motor.-

All they did was paint it with a spray can
