Default The mysterious Case of the Wobbling Rear View Mirror....

Please help me solve this mysterious wobbling, shaking rear view mirror case! 1992 Vette coupe. My rear view mirror shakes like crazy whenever I hit the slightest bump in the road. Is there a way to tighten these bad boys up a little??? I gave the token glance at it hoping to see a set-screw or something but nada. Could it be that all the cars and landscape behind me are shaking and my mirror isn't??????? Many thanks once again to the experts out there! Oh, and while I'm writing, I went ahead and bought a set of KYB rear shocks for my 92. Thinking of putting them on myself. Any tricks or ? I need to know about here? Ride height issues?? Or is this a POC(thats, piece of cake folks)????

If it's not the set screw on the base, it's the nylon insert on the ball pivots. For that there is no cure (that I know of).

with both of the above.

Tightening the small screw you can see behind the mirror glass when you adjust the mirror all the way out was loose on my '88.

If the ball is loose, its time for a new mirror. About $100.

I thought my Harley had shakey rear mirrors.........My '95 easily rivals that. Join the shakey mirror club!

Same on my '90 It used to hurt my eyes just looking at it.
Reminds me of that movie where the Italian guy gets in his car and rips
off his rear view mirror and says "Whatsa behinda me is nota important"
or something like that(Cannon Ball Run????)

Squirt Blue Loctite into the ball-pivot. That did the trick in my Nova.
Still firm after 4 years.

When I replaced my original shocks (KYB) on my 95 the height seemed to be higher which to me should not make sense as I did not change the springs. The stock shocks that I replaced appeared lower but I did not take a measurement. The shocks are pretty decent as I use the car on weekends and do not race.

The op said he is putting on KYB shocks and is there any problems. Is there any ride height issues.
He had 2 questions the first one being the mirrors and the second one about the KYB shocks

Rear shocks are a breeze. Jack up, remove wheel, remove one nut on the bottom and two bolts on the top, swap the top plate onto the new shocks, tighten the shaft nut to squish the rubbers and reinstall. Did mine in an hour. Shocks don't change ride height, only spring adjustment or modification can do that.
