That is a cool find however 12K If you had a real challenge car that needed a motor or a car collection and you wanted it as a display it might be worth good money BUT 12K?
This would be a cool piece to put in the Corvette museum.

Just because it is a "World Challenge" engine, there is absolutely nothing special about other than that. Just a blueprinted L98 that was beaten on by Doug Rippie.
$12K is steep. I think $2,500 is more reasonable.

The engines were all equalized (blueprinted) for power and bolts sealed with antitamper paint. That way the tech guys could quickly see if the engines were tampered with. That way they cut down on mods giving guys advantages in the corvette challenge. Which the cars were supposed to be equal in performance and be a drivers race.

Cool find. I just told Doug about the find. He laughed and the stories started. Friday afternoons is old racing story time, like at the libary as kids as someone read weenie the pooh.
The stuff going on back then was just funny.

Alright. A couple years after the challenge died out, our shop prepped a car for DE and stuff like that (NOT ONE OF OUR CARS). The engine was pushed back almost 4 inches, down one and over one. They cut the cowl and reglued it to make it look factory.
Just one of the many things that really went on. Doug said there will be a book someday, about the true Corvette Challenge.

Better balance. In roadracing with the Vettes, it's important to move weight back as far as you can. It gets rid of some push, and also gives more traction coming out of a corner.
Most open wheel and prototypes use a 40/60 where most full body cars are in the 50/50 range.
