Someone backed into my Corvette and won't own up to it
I parked it in front of my house last night since the driveway was full. Unfortunately, the house across the street's driveway lines up right where you have to park if you park in the street in front of my house. The dammage isn't that noticable from a distance, but the cracked the rear quarter panel right above the rear tire.
The guy across the street has a teenage daughter (I am not even sure if she's 16). Well, you put two and two together. I reported it to the police and the girl's dad came out and talked with the cop. I can't believe the dad had the guts to tell my I shouldn't park there. He does it all the time right behind our driveway making it a pain to back out. At least we actually look behind us when backing up.
My insurance does have comprehensive/uninsured motorist coverage. Here's the catch. I believe the deductable is like $1000. Does that usually apply to hit and runs? (I can't find a copy of my policy right now) I can't afford that right now. If it was my fault, that would be another thing. But I just don't feel like shelling out a grand for something that was not my fault.
Oh, I live in TX, btw. Not sure how the laws typically work where I live. I have been fortunate and not had this happen many times.

Unless you bought the uninsured motorist option then I'm sorry bud you got fork the green out. You have to file the report with the cops and the insurance company will ask you for the report number. After that they give you options of shops covered under your insurance or a place you know of. Unless you can pin it on someone than there is no option. Sorry I feel for you.
I know thats how geico runs it.

I do have the uninsured motorist and comprehensive. I just know I have $1000 deductible. Just wasn't sure if that TYPICALLY applied for hit and runs.

Well you can tell the insurance company that someone hit me and from the look of the hit he was uninsured.
If you say it is a hit and run they have to file it under uninsured motorist.

If I were you get a shop that will want to paint the whole back end or whole car due to damage. Cause otherwise the insurance company will send you to a shop that does fade jobs.

I believe if you got that extra uninsured coverage they will foot the whole bill. I denied the coverage completely. But if its uninsured 1000 deductible then you have to fork the money. If its a yes or no, do you want uninsured coverage and you pay a monthly fee for it, than you are covered completely.

That really sucks, I have a similar driveway, when it's full I always move the other cars to insure the vette never gets left on the road. Always been the rule here and everyone knows that they have to leave room for dads vette. Good luck with the insurance and too bad that whoever did this doesn't have the b---s to own up to it.

If they file it under uninsured motorist, then you shouldn't have to pay your deductable. You'll have to call your agent, they all work a bit differently. You can talk to your agent about it without having to file a claim...

New Law also in Texas if you file you will have to get a Rebuilt from Salvage title if the damage is estimated over a certain amount.
My 95 Red got hit also in the front of the house and driver of truck got away .
I ended up fixing it myself w/bodywork and a new Bumper.
It will never be the same again , it was perfict and now It's flawed .
But my other 95 Hot Rod is show quality also Rebuilt from Salvage on the title it had new front end and paint.
I don't plan on selling either but the Rebuilt From Salvage sounds ominous if you try to sell.

No, you WILL pay the deductable. At least in Missouri you would.
Unless you can prove the other driver did it, so that the insurance company can go after them.
Only way to find out your situation, is to talk to your agent.
Also, unless you saw it happen or have some other witness how do you know the neighbors daughter did it? I know it really looks bad for her.
But put yourself in the same shoes, how would you like them accusing you of doing the same to their car (if you didn't do it). Just saying.....

You should look on there cars to see if their's have damage and if it does take pictures and report to the police again. Then you may be able to get there insurance to fix it.

I couldn't find any paint transfer. The cop I reported it to even looked at their cars with me. The only "scratch" was the clearcoat. The paint is cracked and you can feel the fiberglass fibers behind the panel. My car isn't anywhere near show quality, so as long as I can get a professional repair, I'll be happy. It's just the principle that ticks me off.
95% of the time, I park in the garage, but I got home at 1am and the driveway was full. I didn't want to play musical chairs moving the cars around and end up waking anyone in the house up. I finally found my policy, it's a $250 deductible for uninsured motorists/hit and runs.
What's this rebuilt title thing?????? I am probably gonna have to sell this car soon. This is minor dammage. Only noticable from 25 feet or closer. The panel itself isn't really deformed or anything. I don't have a white crack with fiberglass fibers sticking out like what some are probably picturing in their heads.

i walked out to my car after doing a job at the airport. at first glance it looked like i had two front flat's. but to my surprise the old 4door parked in fount of my 90 Vett was on top of the bumper and hood. it left two deep 8 inch scratches on my car. so i tuck out my trusty skew driver and traded the damage for his plates. bet u he had fun at the "DMV".
