Was one a copper/orange/gold color? I have heard that it dissappeared as well, and that the musuem has it because the cooper color was suppose to be part of the opening of the musuem - they did sell promo models of the ZR1 and convertable from the museum in the copper metallic with the NCM logo.

My Dark Metallic Blue seems to be rare...been looking for a mint hood for sometime. Nothing for the past two years.
Also, I've never seen a c4 the same color.

I went to the Corvette plant with my brother in April or May of 2000 and we were shown 2 or 3 privately owned Gold Corvettes in the museum, only 15 were made after the color was discontinued due to paint matching problems [body to bumper covers]. Can't remember if they were 1999s or 2000s. So i'm guessing these 15 are the rarest publicly offered color.

That melon car is wild. In a weird way I kind of like it, haha.
Last winter I was actually getting close to buying an '87 Copper Metallic down in Arizona, but I thought they wanted a bit too much for the car. They didn't seem to know how rare that color was at least, but I was torn on if I really wanted it or not. Wouldn't change how things went down with my admiral '94.
Not a rare color per-se, but a rare combo that I find really desirable is a '90 ZR1 in Quasar Blue. I believe only 19 or so were made.

I' seen the color on my '94 convertible listed as "copper", "light copper metallic" and finally, "melon" (1 of 24).

I'm no expert on colar rarity andrew but I do think I have tasted and your orange z06 is one of the sharpest corvettes of any generation ive ever seen. Chev really missed the boat by not making that a standard colar!
That is an interesting question. I looked at this about a year ago using the Corvette Action Center data and made some Excel documents grouping colors by year.
I cannot seem to attach anything, which could be my lack of skill, so if you PM me your e mail, I'll send you the document. In short, I put the exact description and made a generic color grouping in a pivot table by year. I know, this is a little nerdy, but I'm a stat kind of guy.
Here are all of the colors that had less than 1000 Corvette's produced (using exact RPO color description):
Dark Orange (Pilot) - 5
Yellow (Plain) - 8
Arctic Pearl - 27
Dark Orange Metallic - 87
Copper Metallic - 120
White / Silver 2 Tone - 195
Dark Beige Metallic - 245
Gray/Black 2 Tone - 316
Silver / Gray 2 Tone - 403
Lt & Dk Beige 2 Tone - 447
Medium Brown Metallic - 488
Dark Purple / White - 527
White / Silver - 693
Gray Metallic - 869
Here is color (using generic color description):
Orange - 92
Copper - 120
Brown - 488
Beige - 692
Purple - 1896
Turquoise - 2210
Black Rose - 4088
Gold - 5015
Bright Aqua - 5733
Yellow - 7549
Bronze - 11008
Green - 15976
Silver - 17443
Gray - 20207
Dark Red - 26123
Blue - 26437
White - 57122
Black - 60922
Red - 93632

There are a number of colors that were never ordered in large quantities and I don't think they are necessairly "rare", just not popular.
Copper Metallic in '94 was an example of a "rare" color with only 166 cars in that color. But GM had lots of problems with the paint so it was dropped as a color choice. Its a striking color when you see a Copper Metallic C4, but with tthe paint problems, it never had a chance to become popular.
In '89 there was an Artic Pearl with only 27 cars painted that color. In '87 there was a Dark Orange with only 87 cars in that color; the following year, it was a "pilot color" and only 5 cars got that color.
OVer the years, there were a variety of colors ordered that were not that popular in a given model year. Yellow as an example never selected for much over 400 to 500 cars in any single year model year.
This link will show color selection and numbers for all the C4 years. Just click on the year to the right of the "Select" box to page thru to the 96 cars. This data will also be available in the Corvette Black Book.

LT5corsa,
I wanted to point you to this thread, it has some good info on the Copper Metallic ZR-1:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...allic-zr1.html
From automotive writer Hib Halverson’s post #24.
"B17Crew" is correct.
”One Copper Metallic ZR-1 was built. It was at the '94 media preview in the summer of '93. The car was nonsaleable, so it was eventually crushed. The rear fasica hung in John's office at Milford for a long time. I saw it there several times when I visited him when doing stories on stuff at Milford.
The other interesting Copper car was the only six-speed with Z07. That car was saleable. It spent nearly a year in the West Coast media/VIP fleet, then was actioned in late '94 and ended up in the hands of a resident of the L.A. area. Just before its 3/36K-mi warranty expired late '97, the car was sold to a couple of Phoenix who still own it. The car has 238,000 miles on it in daily driver duty. It's nearly original, is unrestored and is in very good condition.
I'm writing a story on the car for "Corvette Magazine" which will appear in an upcoming issue.”
A little Copper Metallic love:
’94 Copper hardtop vert (when it was in the McDorman collection)
’94 Copper coupe (when it was in the McDorman collection)
I remember seeing the “Melon” car that PLRX posted when it was in the McDorman collection, it looked really nice.
