Default confusing vert

I spotted a black vert last night in the parking lot at work, figured i'd park next to it. 12 hrs later was heading out and the young guy was in it warming it up. looked at the early sawblade rims, vert, 3rd brake light, figured 86 or 87. said nice 86/87 he said "its an 86 dude" I was like "ahh..." he cut me off and said "yup an 86 pace car says so right here" pointing at the emblem next to the climate control. :oat that i was confused and bit my tounge, thinking 86 pace car verts were yellow weren't they?

So, not wanting to seem like a stupid jerk off the bat and tell him his car either wasn't an '86 pace car with a transplanted dash piece, or wasn't on it's first paint job I brought up my '84 and the forum and how he should check it out and how most of the vette owners at the mill are on here.

Am i off on the color/dash piece not being right together, or do i need to do 4 hail marys, sacrifice a radiator to the vette gods, and then study hard for the next pop quiz?

All of the 86 roadsters were pace car replicas, regardless of color. I had a garnet one that had it the trinket on the ac controller too.

The ones that actually paced the race were yellow but Chevrolet considered ALL 86 Convertibles "Pace Cars". Sort of the opposite of the 1993 Corvettes. ALL 93s had the "40th" stiched into the seats but ONLY the Ruby Red cars are considered 40th Anniversary Editions by Chevrolet.

The Roadster was the big news in 1986. It would also carry the distinction of leading the Indianapolis 500 as the official 'Pace Car'. All of the 1986 Corvette Roadsters were designated as Pace Cars and included the Indianapolis 500 Decal Package in the price. However, the only ones used at the Indy Track for the pre-race activities and the actual Pace Car were all Yellow in color. The totally new Roadster was a mid-year introduction. A considerable amount of engineering went into the structural changes and substantial suspension tuning refinements. The press immediately picked up on the clean classic lines of the Roadster, and of course, its handling and performance capabilities.

Guy sounds like a major tool

Honestly, I wouldn't be telling anyone I had an 86 pacecar unless it was yellow and it had the stickers installed.

I have a 93 and I don't go around telling people I have a 40th anniversary because my head rests are embroidered 40th

Well since every 86 Convertible was given the designation of being a Pacecar replica and even came with the stickers I have zero problems telling people I have a Pacecar. I don't think I'm a tool for doing either, and I guess others that voted don't think that way either.
