a. does the front mounts on the new top match the old top?
b. 84-861/2 (external pin), 861/2-88 (approx 3" bracket with two torx), 89-96 (approx 2" bracket with two torx).

Im not sure what you mean by external pins. my vette is in storage so I cant try it. Can you switch the brackets out if it is not the right top. if so how hard is it? I got a great deal on this and would like to use it, because it is in awesome shape.

You would need to switch the front brackets and the plastic trim that screws to the windshield. Trying to change the brackets on the top is not recommended. Unless you are really good, you will destroy the top. Since you don't know what the pins are, I'm assuming you bought a later top, the pins are rather obvious. Most of the tops for sale are the 89-96. Research back through the threads, and you will find dozens of posts about this very same thing.

Can't you ask the seller what year this top fits?

WOW!
Sometimes those so called great deals are just not what they seem.

As Sweet 90 said, if it's really a C5 top it sure ain't gonna fit your C4.
Perhaps you could sell it here in the C5 section though.

Something to think about though is in the future make sure of what your buying and what it fits before spending your hard earned dollars.
