Differences between 92 & 93 LT1's and 94-96 LT1's
Hi,
I am actively shopping for a 92 to 96 lt1 or lt4 corvette. What are the differences between 92 & 93 LT1's and 94-96 LT1's? I know about the lt4... just wanted to know upgrades, changes, ride, etc....
Thanks a lot, I'm a former 2 time C3 owner.
Joe, save the WAVE... :seeya :seeya :seeya   :)

Joe, you sure do ask alot of questions.
This webpage has it ALL, and is the most useful one I used while learning which year to get. 95-96 are almost identical (except the front nose), and are completely reformed. So if you got the cash, get a 95 or 96 LT1. But if you REALLY got the cash, get a LT4 :D

Not too many differences, but here are a few off the top of my head.
The 92 has 10 lb/ft less torque due to cam.
94-96 use a PCM where 92-93 have ECM
92 had 700R4(I believe)
94-96 had 4L60E
93, I'm still trying to figure out for sure.
95-96 had the better optispark
95-96 has a smaller and lighter ASR/ABS unit
95-96 came standard with J55 "big brake" option.
92-93 uses speed density where 94096 use MAF.
I'm sure there is more, but I'm eating dinner, if I made any mistakes, there are plenty here who will correct me.

'92s had painted magnesium valve covers and throttle body plate. '93s and up had thermoplastic.
'93s used a speed-density system (MAP sensor). '94s and up used a mass air flow (MAF) setup. '94s had a new, improved sequential injection program that improved fuel economy with no discernable effect on performance.
Slight improvements all the way through the model years. '93s were the last year to have a passenger-side glovebox. '94s and up have a passenger airbag and neat little storage compartments in the armrests.
'94s and up have a different seat style that in my opinion, are more comfortable to cruise in, but not as supportive in hard driving.
Sometime between '93 and '96, the rear upper and lower control arms changed from all-cast-aluminum to aluminum with composite shank.
Sometime in model year 1993, Chevy switched from the 4L60 tranny with mechanical control, to the 4L60E with electronic control. Improved economy and shift control. My '93 is a 4L60, production number 261 for '93. I haven't found a good separation line for the 'E' trannies.
We all generally say that the rule is, get the newest C4 you can afford, because they just kept improving.

Mojo,
look behind you bumper in the rear and if you see sytrofoam its a 4l60e if it's black plastic you have a 4l60 or THM700R4.
My car was built in December '92 and its a 4l60.

I think MATT BLACK & Mr.MOJO covered just about everything except the steering wheel they went to a Two spoke design in 94'. I personally like the 93's best with the arguably better seats and 4 spoke steering wheel plus the usable glove box. but I have read that the 94 and ups were a little bit quicker but barely. The improved OPTI is the best thing the newer ones have going for them. best of luck in your search. :)

They didnt cover the fact that 93+ had polished wheels and 92 didnt. BOOYAH!
And here is a "In my opinion" topic-
Although that 94+ had more durable and better quality interior... I like the 92-93 seats alot better. Just my .02 :)

Andy, my wheels aren't polished - they simply have a very good lathe finish on them, about a 32 micro-inch Ra. Definite visible cutter marks. I work in a very good custom machining shop, and I speak from vast experience.
However...you're right that the wheel finishing process DID change in '93. That's in the CBB. We missed that one!

Some people have a 4l60 in the 93's I am pretty positive that I have a 700R4 in mine

The 4L60 is a THM700R4. That's just another code for it. The 4L60E is also a THM700R4, with electronic shift control.
I forgot about '93 PKE. I turned mine off a long time ago as a frigging noisy nuisance.
Oh yes...ASR. ASR is good, it can save your tail-wagging butt. Definite gain from a '92 to a '93.

Also for the record: I have Styrofoam inside the rear bumper and I have the a 4L60 and not the 4L60E.

Also the size of the seats. I think it was 94-96 had the bigger style seats. I wish they were in my 93 :jester
