Just got my control arms in the mail. I want them to look as good as possible before I put them on. Any idea's or pics ? Thanks

Ok so I cant get the old top one off. Do I need one of those fork things ? Or is there another way ? Thanks

New or used? Some fine steel wool is a good start, followed by some metal polish and then wax.

Second on the steel wool and aluminum polish.
Mine were so bad I had to hit them with a wire brush in a drill before going to the steel wool.

That, plus some elbow grease, produced a nice result on mine.

The problem with aluminum is that, unless you clear-coat it, the finish will dull quickly over time. This is a good thing, as the dullness is actually a protective coating that forms, and is the reason that aluminum does not rust like steel. You could keep wiping it off, but then you'll end up with no control arms...

They look amazing polished, but just don't expect it to last very long, especially if used.

What did you use to clean all the grime off? My control arm area is full of grime.

Brakekleen and scotch pads will make them look like new. I also did the rear control arms and half shafts. The trick is to keep the pads wet because that stuff dissipates so fast. The gunk and undercoat overspray came off pretty quickly behind a little elbow.

Where is a good place to jack the front end up? And a good place to put the jack stands at? And probably a good spot for the rear too.

That way, I can take the wheels off and clean that caliper/brake parts real good.
