has anyone moced car inside U-haul truck?
I am moving. (about a 1000 miles) I have 3 Vetts and tons of parts. One of the C4's is a daily driver and can be driven, no problem. The other 2 (a C3 and C4) are in various stages of disassembly and cannot get down the road on their own. This is not a "company" move or being payed for by anyone but myself so I do have limited funds. I am thinking of renting a U-Haul or Budget truck and a full car hauling trailer. I have called both truck rental company's an found they are total idoits if your not hauling furnature. The first and only question they are programed (appparently) to ask is, "How many rooms is your house?" From your answer to that question they reccomend a truck/trailer size and they follow a pre-printed script. When I toss them a response about "I'm not moving rooms, I'm moving cars!" they are lost and stumble into the stupid mode. My question is this..............
Will a C3 or C4 fit into a standard U-haul or Budget truck? (wide enough/long enough?) Has anyone on the forum ever tried to move their car with one of these trucks? The U-Haul's seem to be rated for higher loads. Budget about 4,000 lbs and U-haul about 6,000 lbs for the sams size truck. other than that, I don't see much difference.
I don't want to rely on this method of moving only to find out on move day, they won't fit or it's going to beat the hell out of my car.
Thanks for any advice.

I think it's only like 5 1/2 feet in between the wheel wells inside those trucks. I'd stop by the closest uhaul with a measuring tape and check the distance. How exactly do you plan on getting the cars in and out? Good luck!

Better go with vehicle transport(pay for it)

I'm not sure how you would load the cars into one of these trucks or how you would secure it once its inside. They are not made for hauling a car and the tie down locations inside are barely adequate for hauling furniture. You'd be better off making the trip twice.
When I moved last year, I had three truck loads from my 1600 SF house including all of my car parts etc in the garage.

The best way would be an open two-car trailer, but I would doubt that either U-Haul, Budget, or even Penske would have such a rig. In any event, those types of trailers are a 5th wheel or "gooseneck" styles and that would require something like a 1-ton pickup to haul a traielr of that type.
Rental box trucks are not made to haul vehicles. The floor won't carry the weight if you think about the weight under each tire and there is no effective way to tie the car down. Depending on the stage of "disassembly, each car is going to weigh somewhere around 2500-3000 lbs. Putting that weight and bulk into a box truck is not going to be easy as is unloading at the other end.
U-Haul has car trailers you can rent but my personal experience with them is that they are garbage. I have seen them with bald tires, bad brakes, and tie-downs that look like a pack of dogs used them as chew toys.
Unless you want to try contacting some transport companies that deal in hauling cars, you may wind up making separate trips.

back in the mid 90's i moved my '79 vette from california to philly. i had lots of other stuff and used consolidated freight lines. put the vette right in the trailer no problem. i drove it right off a truck dock right into the trailer. alot of the trucking companies are trying to compete with u-haul, etc. for you moving dollars. give them a call.

I have had u-haul franchise a couple times. And yes most are idiots they pay ,im wage to come in and follow a script. The 26 ft truck with ramps should hold a c3 or c4 but as stated earlier no way to secure down. And also when doing the auttransport trailer, unless things have changed they will not rent for a corvette period risk of dragging car then getting sued for damage. So be preparred to advise them it is a chevy s-10 2wd and make up a plate # because they evan require tag # for vehicle being towed. I rented these things to people who were going to haul portable buildings and all sorts of stuff, just made up cars. But we were independent and not co. owned.

If it were me I would use a vehicle shipping service to move one car that is inoperable. The second that is inoperable I would put on a trailer behind the Uhaul and have the significant other or a friend drive it for you. And drive your operable vette over yourself.
