I am baffeled and need help on this problem. The power door locks work fine on my 1996 Corvette using the door switch, but the keyfob only unlocks the passenger side door for some reason. Sometimes I can hear a slight motor spinning sound at the back of the drivers door, but most of the time nothing happens at all. I pulled the door panel off and sprayed everything with contact cleaner, but no improvement. Any suggestions? The passive alarm system seems to be functioning ok, but I don't remember hearing the brief horn beep lately either.
I was confused by that as well, but apparently, that is how it is designed to work. The passive feature can be programmed to open just the driver door or both doors by having the key IN the ignition when you press the door button to activate the passive feature. (Better check your manual, I can't remember exact sequence for this) When the passive feature is off though, you have to open the driver door with the key and the button only opens the passenger door. Yes, I think that is kind of a dumb way to have the button work, but that is the way it was designed. I'm sure it could be rewired in the doors some how to pop both, but it would probably be a major pain.
I pulled out my service manual and set the passive alarm system to be always on, and now the doors automatically open when the keyfob is close. The button still only opens the passenger side, but as long as it recognizes that the keyfob is close, I'm happy. Thanks for the help.
After rereading your post I'm not sure if I understood your question. With the passive feature activated, does your car automatically unlock both doors or only your passenger door when you walk up to the car? The auto open feature should always open your driver door, and the passenger door is programmable to open with the driver door or remain locked when the driver door "auto unlocks". With the feature turned off, pressing the door button on the fob will only unlock the passenger door and the driver door will have to be unlocked with the key.
Ah, you beat me to the last post! I'm glad you figured it out.
I still think it's dumb that the button only opens the passenger door. That feature should have been programmable too.
