Well I was searching craigslist and found a hypertech powerchip for a 91 but soon realized that it would work on my 86. I was wondering if anybody was using them and if they worked! If so what kind of gains did you get.....I almost can't go wrong buying this for 100 bucks
won't work...86 ecm (-165) is different service # than 91 (-727)...with a -730 ecm for interior mount or -727 ecm, and wiring mods, it CAN be done, but performance will likely suffer
If you do something right you feel it in the seat of your pants, the only benefit I got from this was that my wallet became noticeably thinner thereby making more room in the seat of my pants. Don't get sucked into outrageous and unproven claims as I did with this chip as I've now pulled it out and put the stock one back in. Used "86 chip anyone?
I have a hypertech thermomaster and the only thing it does do is lowers the fan cut-on temperature. It's supposed to have some WOT benifit but since I don't drive WOT I don't know. LOL ... That's something others who've dyno'ed their cars might know.
I was forced to buy this hypertech when my original hypertech PROM went bad (RARE!) and stock PROMS were not to be had for an 1986 vert. If you do buy a hypertech definitely save your old PROM! People on the forum seem to be recommending a lot of custom tunes ... you would need your PROM if you would want to do that. If I were you I wouldn't buy a used one from a different year.
i have a hypertech chip new in the box for a 84 4+3 that i have been trying to sell for years. so i do know for a fact there is no interest in these....
