How can I tell what Differential I have? The car has had a lot of work, the rear end has had new gears and I don't know if they just replaced the gears or the entire differential.
I know nothing about the Corvette rear end and no I don't have a book yet
you can by lifting the car up, and turning the drive shaft, and counting how many times the tires turn in one drive shaft turn.
Don't think so!
You would rotate the tire/wheel one revolution and calculate the axle ratio by the number of rotations of the drive-shaft.
A single rotation of the wheel/tire and three rotations of the drive-shaft would be something near 3.00 etc.
This is actually quite accurate because there's generally a spread of a substantial number in the available ratios in a particular rear axle build. It's difficult to confuse yourself.

A quick way to tell if it is a D36 or D44 is look at the top of the pumpkin where it attaches to the batwing, the D36 has a center bolt (3 bolts) across the top where the D44 does not (2 bolts).
