Default 95 LT1 Engine

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and a new Corvette owner. I was given a pristine 95 with an engine knock. Has 150,00 and am thinking of pulling the engine and doing a rebuild. What am I getting into...cost wise? I have rebuilt many engines in my time, but mainly ford and pontiacs. Technically, I guess they are essentially the same as far as rebulding goes, but I am told an LT1 rebuild can be pricey. The car is in beautiful shape and I'd hate to piece out such a fine machine. I am a Corvette newbie and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well the biggest question is do you have a machinist that you trust close by? That is going to be a lot of your cost.

Look at the stickies above, PeteK and Blackharleyman both have done recent engine builds. I'm going to follow both of thier threads when I build up the shortblock sitting in my shed for my 92.

Thanks jaa1992. Years ago I knew of a good machine shop I would use when I worked on cars. Gotta find out if they still exist. For now I've gotta clean out the driveway behind the gate and make some room! Getting started seems to be the hardest thing to do. By the way how do I find the references you cited? I am not sure what stickies are. Sorry, I am totally new at this and will probably take a while to get the hang of. Thanks again.
