Goodyear GSC Tires
How many of you still run the Goodyear GSC tires on your C4? Also does any know when Goodyear stopped producing the GSC tires? Not the EMT version, but the non-EMT version.

After wearing out the second set of GSC's on my 92 convertible two years ago I put on a set of BFG Gforce Super Sport AS. They are MUCH quieter and the ride is better too. GSC's have not been produced for several years; they are 18 year old technology. But the BFG's don't have the "lefts" and "rights" like the Goodyears did.

Sounds like a conspiracy by the tire companies to keep you buying tires every few years..no matter how many miles you have on them. Built in obsolescence,.... tire companies don't want to make them last too long...so you will have to keep spending that $1000 + every couple of years.

Just like cell phones, they are programmed to fail at the 24 month mark.

I'm running a 5 year old set of GY Eagle HP Ultra Plus that have about another year left on the tread.
They have great traction wet/dry/at the strip and even decent snow traction, plus long tread life and great handling in the twisties.
This is my 2nd set and will try to find another next year.

Some tires dry out and weather check in a few years. I have seen tires that were 25 years old that seemed to be OK, we even cut one up to inspect the cords and everything seemed to be in good condition. How they are used and the exposure to the elements seem to play a major part in their useful life. Every old tire that has failed, that I have seen, showed signs of age (weather checking, cracks in the tread area, discoloration) before the failure. I have seen tires that were not very old showing signs of impending failure. The example above (25 years old) looked good and inspection showed no impending failure. Every tire needs to be judged by condition not necessarily just age.

I have the factory wheels and tires from my 02 Z06 with < 20,000 miles on them (they are not on the car). I gave a really close look and there is no way that I would drive on them. I can't imagine adding another few years.
