I actually got some sheet metal at home depot. Then cut to size and drilled holes (x3) to mount in existing screws that hold the front spoiler. It did start to rust but it served its purpose.

That looks great! I've been looking at head units for my 84 since the original is dead. Wonder if anyone has tried one of these in the early cars.
Does it play the video files directly off SD card? If so and it will fit my 84, I'm sold!

It does play the files right off the SD card, but I'm not sure about fitment in the earlier C4. I think some folks have made them fit, but I don't know what it takes to do that.

PM Agent86, he's the guy who knows how to shoehorn any sort of modern electronics into early C4's.

I really like the unit so far. The background is set as 1 background image (more $$ unit with HDD could do more). I wish it would show album art for MP3 (it does for iPOD though). Minor things (esp for the price)...so far I really like the unit. I've actually used the SD memory slot a lot more than I thought (it is limited to 2GB though).
It DID improve the sound of my systems big time. Although, that was because it replaced a 14 year old BOSE head unit. I like pioneer units for their 4V preouts. In this case, it has a good EQ for adjusting sound settings.
The touch screen and look is what the corvette should have come with...if they had that in '96!

Glad you like the system, I love mine!

nogoodsam,
That looks great, my HU works perfectly but I don't want to live with 1994 sound quality and thanks to you I can now step into 2010 . Was the install plug and play? If not can you explain what you needed to do to install it?

The stock setup has the HU and tuner as separate items.
So the speaker wires/antenna/etc do not go to the HU.
If you remove the tuner, then you'll need to jumper or run other wires like ignition, 12V, lighting control/etc. If its bose, then the speakers are 2 ohm. The schematic diagram from the service manual helps alot here!
