Well, ya see.
California has this thing called a 'non-op' which is just a piece of paper you pay for, when you take your car off the road, that tells the DMV that your car is 'non-operational'.
If you don't get a 'non-op' and you don't re-register the car, then the next time the car is registered the DMV charges you for all that time that it sat. They assume it was driven for the period that is was supposed to be 'non-operational'.
So if your renewal was say $100 a year, and you let it sit for 5 years, then the Cal-DMV charges you $500 plus the current year registration fee. Plus taxes.
Oh, and don't forget the 'transfer' fees that must be paid if you bought the car as well as 'smog' fees.
At least that was the way it was back in the late 80's and early 90's when I lived there.

Well after a real strong down pour the weatherstripping did it's job. So aside from the few issues I have had with the kit, at least it keeps rain out.

Here is the catback I am going to put on the car. With hours I work as much as I like muffler eliminators cops and neighbors I doubt would like the noise. I would like to have the mufflers and tips chrome plated though.
270.00 front y-pipe
180.00 main cat
319.00 catback
besides for brakes and shocks this is the last big expense for it to be mechanically ready. I probably have somewhere around 3,500 into the car now

Here is a quik fix for you window motors. Bought two new ones but didnt want to deal with the factory rivets holding motor on.
Take the rectangular cover off new motors then turn commutator counter clockwise and it will come out of the motor. The brush holder and wiring terminal just prys out. To reassemble put some grease in the old gearbos then press the brush holder in place. Then thread the commutator in clockwise till it fully seats and then bolt the rectangular cover back on.
Mine have been working fine ever since and are pretty fast going up and down.

Where did you get new brushes? from the parts store motors? - good idea.
I have a $15 harbor freight riveter for those 1/4 rivets. This was always a problem when I used to work on cars for a living. I have also used M6 hardware (10mm bolt heads and nuts) to put in place of the rivets before.

I tinkered with it a bit today. I have to work on the hood and bumper gaps. Mostly just did spider web removal and debris removal under the hood. It is able to move now without pushing it and light its tires up fairly easy. So the trans does appear fine .... I have more parts coming for it this week hopefully.

I'm going to have the door jambs and rear 1/4's and rear bumper blended for now. This will be a daily driven car and not worthy of a show paint job. I know a lot of you cherish paint and are dedicated weekend waxer's but I won't do it, a car is lucky if I wax it once a year and it quickly gets used to the drive threw car washes. This car has like 198K miles I see no sense in spending big buck on a paint job for it and if I do have a paint job it will be going to 1 day paint. As long as the interior is nice and mechanically sound that is my main interest.

just bring lots of lube for the shafting and they ain't so bad hahaha ... Gotta figure out my brake issues though on the car. It's pretty close to road ready though once all the exhaust is on and the interior is all back in.

Jeff just looking at the pictures and reading about all the work you've done has made me tired enough to want to lay down and take a nap .
I was glad to run across your post because I've been wondering how things are going with your car. A lot of guys would have given up on a project that big, so my hats off to you and keep up the good work.

I borrowed my friends 90 6 speed for like 3 weeks and thats why I bought this 90. Plus you can buy one the seemingly looks ok but it can be just as much of a money pit.
this car was for the most part complete mainly just a neglected car is all. I'de rather fix up what I want then buy one fixed up. because get more satisfaction knowing it's like this because of my hard work.
the 3500.00 onto the car included the purchase price of it.
