Default You all wondered what happened to the 1990 project vette

The car is fine, pretty much lost my temper with as everything progressed other issues were found that constantly made setbacks in the project. So I did what was best and just took my mind off the car during the hot summer and moved onto other things. The bose system alone drove me crazy for a month trying to figured out why it would smoke a CDM as soon as it was turned on. That issue was resolved with the purchase of a 500.00 dollar parts 90 vette which had a excellent bose harness and CDM and head unit as well as other parts I needed. I then sold the parts vette to my best friend for 400.00 because he wanted the dana44 and all the suspension parts. So for a 100.00 I got quite a few parts this car dearly needed and my friend got a deal of the century on a dana44,suspension,big brake stuff.

the bose now is working excellent and plays for hours with no problems at all. This parts car even had brand new speaker assemblies with new amps, speakers and housings.

I think I have no got all the major issues under control now and am now reassembling it's interior and I am actually planning on getting it on the road in maybe 2 months. It will no longer be polo green since for the most part every body panel needed to much work and cheap replacement body panels were acquired. So it's final color will be arctic white with black interior.

here it is after having all white panels installed. The hood has just one bad spot on it but for now just getting the car one color is my goal.

Basically I will just have the door jambs, rear 1/4 panels, roof halo, rear bumper shot white and it shouldn't look like an eyesore anymore. I suppose it could be put back to polo green quite easily since these white panels are very nice and have no damage. But with the dusty areas I plan on using the car in white will be just much easier to maintain.

I had the fun of changing the heater core but the dash is now going back in it and I am hoping to have the interior all back together sometime this month. I am really picky about about how a radio matches everything and that is why the bose had to stay. I know all you high tech audio people will laugh but the bose sounds nice to me and get the job done.

Lights are another big picky issue for me. These are just camera phone pictures so they are not the greatest but I did replace every bulb inside the car and related to the dash. looks a lot better in person.

the digital display was very hard to read but that issue was a burnt out backlighting bulb

I have all new carpet and seats for it as well. I still have to correct fitment issues on the seat bottom upholstery but compared to how the interior was when I bought this nightmare everything is an improvement.

You are a better man than me - and a better wrencher. I would never ever even think about doing what you have already done.

Actually it hasn't been to bad. The body parts were all bought for 270.00 interior and weatherstrips were about 1100.00. 350.00 complete a/c system ... The cars initial price was 1500.00
I do have a few more big expenses 260.00 front y-pipe ... 170.00 main cat ... 300.00 rear y-pipe and mufflers and then brakes and shocks Then the car should be mechanically road worthy and everything functioning as it should.

then of course DMV wants 750.00 in back fee's and transfer fee's then of course smogging the car.

You could buy a 6,000.00 vette and still have unseen issues, this one had blown head gaskets but appears motor had been replaced and it currently runs very nice with no smoking issues or leaks so I am fairly confident the engine won't present any more problems.

Then your smarter then I am lol ... This car needed far more work then I ever imagined. Wish I never bought it actually but not giving up on it just yet.

Man , that's some sweat equity. I have (and doing one now) restored one similar to that. I feel your pain but I am impressed at your work... really impressed! You know I get a lot of the Corvette magazines like Corvette Fever (now Vette magazine), I have been asking them to do a complete frame up restoration of a C4 as no one I know has ever really done that, the magazine always does partial restores, like you and I are doing, citing value vs costs...screw that....some people just love C4's. Of course you know the body really cant be lifted off a C4 like earlier Vettes. I wonder how thats gonna progress in the future....but thats a little off topic! Keep up the progress and keep taking pictures, I enjoyed reading this thread!
