Does it go up when when you turn it on or is it hung in limbo?

Happened to me a couple of years ago. I dribbled a bit of light oil down the mast, and its been fine ever since.

Not sure if yours exactly the same, but I'm having some sort of the same issue.

Mine does not go down or up, I hear the motor but nothing happens so it's just sticking out right now.

I got lucky and was able to just pull out the old mast & ribbon and feed the new one in without having to pull the motor. Took about 10 minutes and has worked great for about 5 years now. If you get a new mast be sure to get the antenna mast nut socket with it.

10 minutes? "Come on man! Would you explain the exact steps you took
in doing this please. I have this same issue. Stuck in the "up" position.
THANKS. 10 MINUTES!

Very simple. Use the special antenna mast nut tool and unscrew the mast nut. The nut has two little dimples on it, slide the tool over the antenna with the dimple side down and hex side up to unscrew the nut.
Next have someone turn on the radio so the antenna motor wants to extend and simply pull the old mast and ribbon up and all the way out.
Take the collar off the old antenna and put it on the new one. Insert the new ribbon while someone else truns the radio off and it will pull the new mast into place. If I remember correctly the teeth on the ribbon shoulld be facing to the outside of the car. Once the new mast is on re-install the mast nut (do not overtighten) and you are done.

If there is too much debris from a broken ribbon this will not work, you will have to pull the motor to clear out the derbris. On the 95 models you have to drill out the three spots on the gear cover, earlier models are screwed together.

Hope this helps.

If it's been up for more than four hours you should call a doctor

I had to take the motor down (1991) to disassemble the wheel and clean out all the old debris. My original ribbon was in many pieces. After cleaning out all the old lube and ribbon pieces, I hit it with some white lithium spray, reassembled, reinstalled and fed the new ribbon in. Been working great since.

I got to the antenna motor by going thru the rear wheel well.

Mine goes all the way up when the radio comes on but when I turn the car off it goes down almost all the way but still sticks up about 6 inches.
