86 pace car seat question
I have a red 86 pace car, with graphite interior and cloth seats. Has anyone else ever seen this? From what I've read so far all over the internet it's not even supposed to exist. My father told me the car was ordered with leather and a manual trans. when it was delivered it came with the usual auto and cloth seats. I'll post pictures soon if anyone is interested and/or has more info.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Unless the stealership did it before the car was taken these seats came from the factory. My dad has known the car since day 1, the original owner never changed anything. When they went to purchase it like i said earlier it came in wrong and the dealership actually wanted to keep it because they had never seen one with cloth seats especially like this. I'll try to snap a picture today.

Number of 86s came with cloth seats. Who knows how many came with pace cars, dont think it would add or take away from sales price though.

Look if your not going to be helpful, go clog up someone else's thread.
Anyway I've figured it out, Donald - those are the seats I have! Basically thats my exact car only mine is the pace car edition. They are the cloth sport seats... apparently an option that became available later in the year. Now does anyone have a clue where I might be able to find a set or atleast original covers so I can re-do mine?

All convertables were to be considered pace cars - 7315 were actual pace car replicas in 1986 they included the decals for the doors and a small dash plaque - as i'm sure you know... sorry if that was an insult to your intellegence. Cloth was the base interior but only something like 10% produced had it... not sure on those numbers. I'm looking for replicas of the original Sport cloth seats though they looked like the seats in the link posted by Donalds

Cloth seats were getting uncommon by 1986 because Chevrolet had finally started offering the sport seats in leather. In prior years, you could choose either sport seats or leather, but not both.
General Motors: finding ways to leave money on the table.
To answer what I think is the original question, I don't know of anyone who reproduces the cloth seats. Folks I know who have needed work done on them end up taking them to an upholstery shop (usually a non-trivial expense).

Approximately 45% of all 86 Corvettes came with leather seats. ALL others had cloth seats which were the standard offering. The option code for your graphite cloth seats was 12C Graphite Cloth.
You can look at the option specs on the underside of your center consol lid and see what options your car came with. You can also order a copy of the original factory build sheet from the National Corvette Museum. You can also order a copy of the original window sticker. Check it out:

Do you have the original Pace Car decals for the car? What are the last four digints of your serial number?
With regard to replacement seat covers, Al Knoch is the best interior restorer in the country. He can give you whatever replacement covers you want or need. http://www.alknochinteriors.com
However, my recommendation is that you keep the car original. If it came with cloth seats, keep it that way. Ultimately, your 1986 Pace Car will be worth more if it is completely OEM original.
Let us know what you decide.

Thanks pmihaltian! Last four of the vin are 9891. I'm unsure of the original pace car decals, I've been trying to get in touch with the original owner to see if he still has them somewhere but I doubt he does. In my restoration process I was planning on just getting another set from Eklers. I do plan to keep this car 100% original - including the seats. Checked out the web site you gave, looks like they only have leather sport seat covers so i'll try giving him a call to see if he can make them. Just found a 60K mile 85 coupe for $3500. Maybe i'll hop that one up
