To get to 300, you're going to need cylinder head work, a camshaft, and an exhaust system.

If you can do all the work yourself and you buy bargain bin parts, it shouldn't cost more than $2500. If you want decent parts, can't spin your own wrenches, figure $5000.

Cheaper, easier, and much faster to have bought a 6 speed '92 LT1 if 300hp was a goal. Many of them for sale in better condition for $6000 - $8000.

What do you need 300 hp for? Nobody races from a stop light anymore, stupid cops. What you could do is put a renegade intake manifold on it and NOS will get easily 300 hp. But you already have a carb so just get a NOS kit and have over 300 hp. Having a carb setup makes it easier and you have plenty of options to make gobs of power. I wouldn't get a tpi setup it will be about the same or slower.

yeah.....protecting the public's safety is such a nuisance.

The reason people don't race from stoplights (or shouldn't anyway) is because it's dangerous and illegal. Our families are on public roads. If you injure them (or worse) street racing, they should lock you up and throw away the key.

Anyhow, back on topic, the mid 80's Corvettes were great for their time, but if you wan't more power, my advice is to change titles. It'll cost about the same in the long run, and you'll have all of the advances that came with time. The early C4's are great cars for what they are, and are fun daily drivers, but upping the ante powerwise is gonna get spendy in a hurry.

yeah... I know, but I like to "tinker" so to speak.
I don't race, even when I had my C5's the only time I ever revved against something was when a Ferrari 360 revved first. couldn't resist (I lost)
It's just nice to have it.
My C5's got 30mpg on the interstate, I drive 30 minutes to work, about 20 of it is interstate travel, the rest is block-to-block stoplights, what kind of Hwy MPG can I expect doing 65-70?

speaking of Mods... it has a Pioneer CD player in it now... no USB or even AUX. how bid is the stock opening? I have a double din laying around the house somewhere.

With a carb, IF it's tuned correctly and you use the O/D, expect low 20's on the highway or less. The Crossfire gets hammered on, but it was a GIANT leap forward from carburetion in regards to efficiency. If the wiring and ECM are still there, pick up a Crossfire setup and put it back on. If you drive the car much, it will pay for itself in fuel savings in a few months, particularly with $5 a gallon on the horizon.

And the Crossfire is EASY to diagnose and work on.....if it ever breaks. With proper maintenance, they are spot on reliable. Switching to a carb because you can't fix a TBI system is like putting up a ratty clothesline in the back yard because you can't figure out how to work the clothes dryer.

Radio opening is 1.5 DIN.

so if the ECM and wiring is still on the car... what do I need to get to put crossfire back on it?
