I'm going to replace the starter in my 91 L98. Should I stick with an OEM replacement or upgrade to something else.

Are you replacing it because its bad? Ever thought about getting it rebuilt?

After seeing prices the thought (rebuild it) crossed my mind. But I have had bad luck with rebuilt starters in the past on my other cars. I'm thinking about going with something smaller and more heat resistant.

Starters are the one thing I don't see anyone having issues with here in C4-Land. Not sure how you would get one that is 'smaller'? Starter part number fits 88-91 period.

Look for rebuilt lifetime warranty at most major AP stores.

If you've been having a rash of bad luck with starters, and you know it's the starter itself and not bad wiring or a chipped tooth on the flywheel, then I guess I'd say go for it. But like I said, in the 2 years I've been here, I've haven't seen any threads with anyone having problems with their starters (repeated).

Lifetime rebuilt at Kragen/Orielly is $120
