l98 dual mass flywheel

l98 dual mass flywheel
I have a 89 vette with 84k and I need to replace the clutch here shortly. I know they don't make dual mass flywheel anymore for this car, but I found a clutch kit for Carolina Clutch and Performance that has a one piece flywheel. So is there any draw backs to going to a single mass flywheel?

Is your DFM bad? If it only moves approx 15 degrees it is a good flywheel. I installed DFM in my LT4, you can find them but, be ready to pay for it.
I would stay away from a SMF, they dont make noise, what makes noise is the torsional vibrations of the engine throughout the transmission's gears. The engine's cycle of operation makes the gears chatter. My DD is a 4 Banger and I installed a SMF and the noise sucks. I imagine a ZF6 going crazy like that

Resurfacing the DMF is generally considered to be not possible, although a few claim to have done it and had it work out okay. Most machine shops will probably decline to try it.
I recently installed the extra-weight billet steel SMF from Spec, along with their Stage 2 clutch kit, into my '94 LT1 car. The engine is stock, and the car has the blue-tag ZF gearbox, running Amsoil gear lube. I'm pleased to be able to report that I hear zero gear rattle after making the switch to the SMF.
If you're considering switching to a SMF I suggest you give the Spec extra-weight unit a look. You might find it to be a satisfactory solution.

I had my DFM resurfaced about 5,000 miles ago and haven’t had any issues yet.
The shop I go to works on all kinds of exotics and they resurface DFMs all the time. From what I understand from my research it’s a pretty touchy operation so I would trust it to just any machine shop. I’d look for one who has experience.
The shop name I trade with is Evans Automotive in Columbus Ohio.
Good luck

I don't ordinarily do a lot of shows, but am always at Ocean City for the big event in October. Drop me a line, and we'll see about meeting up for some shop talk.
