Default Need tires for a 85 C4

I am currently working on getting my 1985 C4 back on the road and I've run into a tire problem. I can't seem to find tires (255/50-16) for this year anywhere. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and could maybe recommend an alternative size tire for a 16" rim. I was hoping not to have to buy a larger set of rims.

If you don't want to move to a 17" rim, your options seem to be limited.

Default BFG's Are Available

Hello,

I have BFG's on my '87 Convertible. Nice tires for the stock wheels. They might be the last remaining manufacturer for the 16 inch stock wheel. You can find many choices though in the 245/50-16 size and even though it is slightly smaller in size, these tires should work. Otherwise, you will need to go to 17" wheels and there are multiple choices for tires.

Good luck.

I have the Falken tires on my 85 and I'm very happy with them, they were one of the few that made the correct size. They were cheap when I bought them 4 years ago ($50 each) and they are unidirectional like the original Goodyear tires that came from the factory. Do a search for ZIEX ZE-512 and you should find someone who has them in stock. I know Sears was selling them at one time too.

The only problem with the BFG's, is that it is a summer tire.

I need an all season tire. Time to convince SWMBO that I need new rims.

So it looks like there is absolutely nothing in the BF Goodrich, and I'm striking out on the Falkens as well.

Can anyone tell me if it would be safe to move to a 245/50-16 and what impact it might have on the performance? It looks like my only option unless I move up to a 17".

Ive used 245s more than once on my 87. You wont notice the difference. Its only 10 millimeters. Around 3/8".

I had BFG Comp TA's on my 85 in that size and didn't notice any difference.

Default Tirerack.com

Just checked, 255/50ZR-16 available and in stock for $130.50 each at Tirerack.com.
Ship them to your local Firestone dealer and they will install them for a mount and balance charge.
Big deal!

I saw the date too.

FWIW I just went through this on my '86 coupe. Current tire dealers list 225/50-16 on non-Z51 cars.

The RPO code was for the 255 tires along with the sticker on the door so I wouldn't go any narrower.

My '87 has 255/50x16 Kumhos on the front and 295/50x16 Coopers on the rear all on 10"x16" BBS wheels.

Perfect all weather fit!

yes, I'm having the same problem. I guess I'm going to increase rim size.

245 50 16s will fit fine. Have them on my 84 z51 and have had no issues plus they lower your car about 1/2". No need to buy new rims!
