Okay, so something has been bugging me for awhile and it all kind of came to a head yesterday. There is a guy who lives in my neighborhood that drives a convertible C6 in the Magnetic (?) red color. He looks to be in his 50's or early 60's. I see him all the time, with his top down and an oversized cigar in his mouth.....looking like a complete d-bag. The problem is, when I'm in my 96 I always wave. He just stares at me (usually see him at a stoplight) and doesn't respond. I just kind of laugh it off usually and go on about my day.
Yesterday, things took a turn. The wife and I decided to take out the 360 for a drive while it was still sunny. Sure enough, there he was. First thing he does is throw me a wave. Maybe I was being a bit childish, but I didn't reciprocate. I simply stared blankly, the way he usually does.
Sorry for the rant, it just aggrivates me how some people get a holier than thou attitude regarding their cars.
I just don't understand it. At first I was just thinking that he never saw me.....But I know he did. He even went as far as to look my car up and down. My car is a flawless CE coupe that looks gorgeous imho. Guess I look like some kind of pauper driving such an old pile of junk

Don't look now, but you just stooped to his level.
I would think you would be more upset that your neighbor does not want to wave to you rather than he drives the same car and does not wave to you.
Are there any good reasons he don't want to wave to you? Maybe have a dramatic reputation? Or maybe he is just driving and minding his own business not worrying about throwing meaningless waves out because some guy bought a used corvette, Just a thought.
Go to car shows then you can get the club type environment and behavior.

OK John, quick question......and I'm being serious, not facetious (for a change).....why are you seeking his approval?
I'm not seeking his approval. I've just been a Vette owner since the mid-90s and always waved to others. For some reason, since I've returned to the Vette world, I've noticed a distinct difference in people's attitudes.
I guess it just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm a Vette fan and very friendly to everyone and I guess I have unrealistic expectations of other people being the same.

He just lives in the same neighborhood as I. Not really my neighbor. I just thought it awfully strange that he threw out a wave when he saw me in the 360.
And no. I do not have a dramatic reputation. I'm the guy that everyone calls to take them fishing and such. Quite the opposite.

Very astute. You've answered your own question.
If you want C4 (or Corvette) comaraderie, you've got all you could ever want right here....and then some. The guy probably doesn't recognize you and is confused as to why you're waving at him. Perhaps you should walk over to your neighbor's house with a couple of cold ones when he's mowing his lawn and get to know him. Might turn out to be a decent guy.
Life is too short, just wave to him. He probably didn't know about the wave thing. I know I didn't when I got my C4 and around here, people don't wave to each other unless you're "interested" or if you want to start a fight! Gotta love New Englanders!

Now that would be a hoot....waving at someone and they think you're batting for B team and wanna hook up....

True it bugs me too, but I realized that a lot of the newer 'Vette owners are 'flavor-of-the-month' car owners. They only have a murky idea of the heritage of the Corvette. To them, it's just a 'cool' car and next year, it might just be a BMW Z4 'Vert, or a Nissan 370Z. They just don't get it. It still bugs me, but not as much.
In the Harley world, it's rare to see someone who doesn't share in owning one, but then again, you're not likely to see a well-off housewife or milque-toast bozo riding a Harley Softail, but you will see them driving a new C6!
Finally, in the Harley world, ALL Harleys are loved. I don't care if it's a 1973 Sportster, a 1987 Fatboy or FXR or a 2003 FXST (standard softail). They're all accepted and respected.
NO WAVE ? I'd have to force him off the road at some point and beat the living snot out of him. Then I'd burn his hand with his own cigar and tell him YOU BETTER WAVE NEXT TIME OR ELSE .....

Ha! all that? I'd move or buy a Porsche and see who waves.

Again, it's not that. I know where comaraderie exists the most. I love this forum and routinely ask advice and such. Also, I have no idea which house is his, it's a big neighborhood. I usually see him on the roads leaving the development. He's given me the up and down look a few times and chose not to wave in return. The fact that he threw a wave to me yesterday just kind of seemed odd. Oh well. It's a cloudy and rainy day. Bummed I can't drive anything nice.

Seems that all motocycles wave to each other. I ride sportbikes and always wave to the cruisers and vice versa.
