2010 Camaro SS vs. 96 LT1/LT4
#21
Also, I'm not sure how this compares, but I can tell you that a 1996 Corvette with an LT4 will pull away from a Challenger SRT8 auto and a 6.0 GTO from a 50 mph pull. I'm not really sure how I know this, but I just thought it might help in comparing it to an SS Camaro. The SS is faster than the SRT8 (I think) as well.

in a few weeks me and my buddy will be taking our cars to run the 1/4 mile to see whos quicker. he has a 2002 z28 with the 6 speed. all stock other then catback and cai. my car is a 94 with 6 speed. my mods are electric water pump, cut air box, shorty headers, no mufflers, short shifter, removed a/c and spare tire, full suspension and car lowered, beam plates, and most recently new rims and tires nitto nt05's in the back 315 width. im pretty sure i got him. id put both our power at a tad over 300. id say his car is a good deal heavier. im running 315's in the back and hes 275.
i know this all has nothing to do with the topic, just wondering what everyone elses opinions are.

A video was posted on youtube 6-2-11 showing a 2010 Camaro with full passengers beating on a 2004 Vette.
I think you are better off comparing a 2010 Camaro to a 2010 Corvette.

FYI, trap speeds don't really lie regardless of driver. I have had mine trap constantly in GOOD air in the 108 range, if I could launch good for high 12 sec. passes. Yes, I have the time slips, and if you want tow. I can post them. To late tonight, I have a long day tow.
Camaro SS is a fat pig compared to any C4. 3300 pounds verus close to 2 tons.

Stock huh? got a bridge for sale-
Lots of "factory freak" debates back then.
Granted we dont have the best air out here but a typical 6 spd LT1 will run about a 14.00 at 100 LT4 a couple tenths quicker at best.

Just for grins, I'm going to throw this into the discussion;
An LT1-powered Corvette with automatic transmission was tested for 0-to-60 mph in 5.26 seconds and did the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds at 102.2 mph.
An LT1-powered Corvette with the six-speed manual transmission was tested for 0-to-60 mph in 4.92 seconds and did the quarter mile in 13.7 seconds at 103.5 mph.
A 1992 Corvette ZR-1 with standard manual transmission was tested for 0-to-60 mph in 4.3 seconds and did the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds.
From this site about the 92 Vette;

What does it matter if a new camaro will beat a c4 vette? New Camaro's are ugly and in the end no matter how bad they may beat a c4 vette. The vette has class and looks a camaro will never have.

A new Camaro won't be faster than mine when I'm done.

Mph is what you need to look at not e.t. WAY too many variables that affect e.t.
The maro mph is around 110-112 depending on magazine. lt4s are known for 105-109. the ss clearly has the power to pull away.
mod vs mod just argue whose wallet is bigger. thats the only competition in that argument.

How do you figure? Where I race, I obliterate any and all stock or stockish, late Camaros with my stock '92. They run in the low 14's (this is high elevation), and I run high 13's. It's no contest.
The LT cars are down 100 hp, but also down 600-800 lbs in weight as well. Should be a drivers race, but I'd pick the '96 any day of the week b/c YOU are actually DRIVING the car. No tq management, etc. Driving the Camaro is like driving a robot.

BS, I watched them dragging the other day and the camaro is slow. Looked like they were in slow motion. Can't recall the times but all were over 14 and some were were close to 15.
The driver had some to do with it but I guarantee a LT4 would wipe the road with it.

This is a good point, we can talk and babble on comparing stuff or...we line them up and race. When the last yellow comes on it is up to the car and the driver. Best one to the line first wins. The Camaro might be faster on paper but a dialed in LT1/LT4 with a good driver can kicks its butt to the curb. Granted a dialed in Camaro with a good driver could kick the LT1/LT4 to to the curb. Just a matter of car and driver combo.
The Bull Sh** stops at the staging lights. We'll rent PRP for a few hours and we can race some new Camaros and LT1/LT4 Corvettes. At less than 10 people it is only 1500 bucks so 150 a person. Who is in??? The report back here.
