i have the nt05's on my 94 and i love them but i wouldnt recommend them for a everyday car, they have a low treadware and apperantly arent very good in rain. my cars gets driven once or twice a week and in good weather so they work great for me. however, i know the 555's have gotten outstanding reviews. i was actually debating between the nt05 and the 555. search some reviews online and youll find theyre one of the best street tires for the money.

I have the 555 extremes and they grip well in the dry. I got caught in the rain the day I had them put on and the rear was very very happy to slide out on me Not sure if it was because they were new or not, I have not been in rain since.

Safety Car
Love my 555's, haven't had them on that long to tell you how they last.
Only problem is they seem a little "twitchy" in the wet, as others have mentioned. But, quiet comfortable ride and aggressive tread pattern for when the hood is up at a car show.

A very good choice! I got caught in some showers coming home today and let me tell you, the *** end stepped out a couple times and scared the poo poo outta me! Kicked on the 4 ways and slowed WAAAAY down until the road dried out.

I've had them 255x17 front and 285x18 rear. I drive mine in the rain all the time. These Nitto's suck in the wet. I had to slow down and ride in the track marks of the car in front of me. On the other hand, you may like drifting while in a straight line. They do bite well in the twisties though.
The next set was the Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals. The were good in the dry but not as good as the Nitto's. They were better in the rain until about 1/2 tread.
I finally gave in and bought the Hankook Ventus V12 evo. Car and Driver rated them second in a test of nine tires. They only lost by a little to the PS2's. They have been great in the rain and one of the best dry tires I've owned. They are smooth, quiet and have great turn-in characteristics. They are rated for a 280 tread wear so they should hold up well.
The best part is that I paid about $120.00 for the 255/40-17's for the front and about $210.00 for the 295/35-18 on the rear. Saved a bunch and got a better product.
You might Google "Car and Driver tire test" and so a little reading. The results surprised me.

Re tires for vette
Hi
I highly recommend Hankook ventus sport K104
I have them on my 85 vette (275/40/ZR17) they stick like glue on wet roads (silica tread compound) and the dry traction is awsome.
Best tires i have ever had on my vette
Cheers

Im sure a lot of You guys know this but when a tire is a "Summer Tire" they mean it!! Last winter I took my stock 95' LT-1 auto. out and punched it at about 20mph when it was about 28 degrees out and almost turned in a circle! Normally in warm weather there is no way it will start spinning the rear tires while already rolling at that speed. (I did have the traction control turned off). Just thought Id mention-so You won't have to clean up the bottom of Your drivers side seat!

I wound up with the 555 street tires and put a good 300 miles on them this weekend. I could feel and hear the difference right away. Idin't push them at all; it was all highway miles. As for the rain; I try not to drive it if I think I'm going to get caught in it. However I will be carefull to slow down when I get stuck driving in it.
Thanks for all your feed back!
