I have a 1986 vette with high beam issues. Turn signals work, when I attempt to activate the high beams they don't come on and the indicator light also does not come on.
I assumed my vette's turn signal lever was the reason my high beams wouldn't activate. After removing my steering wheel I discovered the lever was fully intact. Are the high beams controled by the turn signal switch?
I did locate a disconnected wire with what appeared as a two prong female end connector coming from the area of the steering column.
I'd like to assume it's the high beam wire, if so where does it connect?
The turn signal lever activates two different switches, the turn signal switch and the headlight high beam switch. You need to retrieve the high beam switch and see if it is working and if it is being activated by the turn signal lever.
The high beam wire from the high beam switch is green on my 87 vette and most likely it is the same on your 86. There aren't supposed to be any loose wires inside your steering column with a switch contact on its end. THAT is why you don't have high beams!!!!!!!
Upon further investigation the unpluged wire actually went to the ignition cylinder..... My high beams were plugged in along with everything else on the turn signal switch.
What is broken is the plastic pivot assembly that the turn signal lever attaches to and is screwed on to the turn signal switch.
I've checked all the noteable vette websites, any idea where I might find one??
