Suggestions welcome. Door Lock Actuators
The door locking actuators and rod in my 84 rattle like crazy. There's a lot of play in the rod and actuator and elbow. Any suggestions?

There tiny plastic clips that hold/snap the rods to actuator linkage.....the plastic clips get old and break into multiple pieces. Usually you have to attempt to do a repair inside the door before they break. Instead of replacing these plastic clips I found that a small rubber gromit (they sell them at sLOWES individually packaged) works great instead...just pops in to the linkage there and provides enough tension to hold the rod from slipping out or making the dreaded rattle.
Hope this helps.

This is what I did for busted/rattling door actuator pushrods.
What the door should look like (minus the dirt and spider webs):
What a broken clip looks like:
Broken clip removed:
Rubber grommet installed in place of busted clip:
Finished product:
Rubber grommet specifics (this size was a little hard to get in there you may want to go a size smaller):
The rubber grommet holds the actuator rod firmly in place and requires no extra fasteners so it is an easy fix. If your elbow is too loose you may want to try to compress the existing rivit further with large "C" clamp. Hope this helps.

These grommets worked like a charm. It was my first time with the door panel off. A bit intimidating at first, but we got through it. Hardest parts of this:
1. Finding the grommet. Lowes had it.
2. Having the guts to start taking the door panel off.
3. Figuring out where the grommet goes (your photos were awesome once I got oriented.)
4. Getting the grommet in the small hole, but a sewing machine screw driver did the trick.
5. Getting the panel back on around the manual door lock. Had to take the plastic **** thing off.
