New Member, 91 corvette with a Cool Story
Hi, my names Calvin. I just joined the site, been looking around for a while and finally joined. Its a great site. My dad and I have a 91 Corvette, (Turquoise Metallic/ Black Interior, Automatic), with a cool story.
My dad bought this car brand new in August,1991 from Jerrys Chevrolet in Baltimore. I was 8 years old and I instantly fell in love with Corvettes. Learning eveything I could about them, reading all the Corvette mags. My dad only drove this car on weekends, too car shows and when it wasnt been drivin it was in the garage covered up. I always with him when he took it out, always dreaming of the day when the car would be mine.
In July, 1994, (I was 11years old), my world came crumbling down. My dad took a new job, which he thought he would be taking a pay cut, so he decided to sell the Corvette with only 6,800 miles on it. I was so upset, felt like I lost a family member. When it left the driveway, I never thought I would see it again.
In 1996, ( I was 13) we bought a 1963 Mercury Comet and we fully restored it (taking 4years), I really got into (and still am into) old Fords and late model Mustangs. After I got my license, (late 1998), Ive had a S-10, F-150, 67 Cougar, 09 Challenger SRT-8 and 7 Mustangs (1986, 2-1991's, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2011) I currently still have my 1963 Comet, 2002 and 2011 Mustangs ( which I drag race). Through the years, I have perodically looked on craigslist and ebay for my dads old Corvette. We never saved the vin, so Ive always looked for a Teal, black interior, auto 91 Corvette with 2 roses on each side of the back glass. My dad had these roses etched into the glass at a car show in 1992, glass etching was kind of a cool thing back in the day with streetrod crowd. I never had success finding it and figured it was probally a lost cause.
Fast forward to December 2011, (Im 29 years old now, same age my dad was when he first bought it), I took off work the week in between Christmas and NewYears. I woke up that Tuesday morning thinking about my dads old Corvette. When I got up, I got on ebay just checking out Mustang like I always do, I was getting ready to turn the computer off and decided to punch in 1991 Corvette and see what comes up. I started scrolling down and saw a teal one. Pulled up the listing, started looking at the pics and saw the roses in the back glass. I couldnt believe it, I finally found my dads Corvette after 17 years, it had made its way down to Florida. I called my dad right away and told him I found his Corvette, he couldnt believe it. The car only had 15,200 miles on it and was exactly the way he sold it except for somebody put chrome sawblade wheels on it, we had the silver ones. I pulled the car fax, the guy he sold it to had it all the way up to June, 2010, he then traded it in at a Chevrolet dealer in Glen Burnie, Md. A 85 year old man bought it from there and took it to Florida where he traded it in a Chevrolet dealer down there in May, 2011. He only put 600 miles on it. From there the car landed in the hands of "Investment Motorcars" in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Thats who had it listed on ebay, I talked to Craig the owner and told him the story that it was my dads old car. He told me all about it, condition and were he got it from. I told him I wanted it and we agreed on a price. I told him it was a spare of the moment thing, so I would have to get the money together, he told me he would hold it for me. He's a super nice guy that deals in alot of high end collector cars and vintage guitars.
On, January 6, 2012 my dad and I flew to Ft. Lauderdale to take ownership of our new/old 91 Corvette. We got to the shop and there it was sitting in front of the shop ready for us drive back to PA. We both couldnt believe it, the car is mint, paint perfect, interior perfect, runs perfect. Just needs a couple weather strips to be 100%. We signed the papers then started our 1,100 mile drive back to PA. We drove 200 miles Friday night then finished up Saturday. Wasnt a bad drive at all, car drove flawless, didnt feel like driving a 20 year old car at all. The last time I sat in the car I could only pretend I was driving it, now 17 years later I was driving it up the east coast, it was a unreal feeling. Driving it brought back alot of good memories and actually felt like it had never left. That Sunday, we washed it, waxed it and covered it up in the same cover we had the first time my dad had it, he had the cover stored away all these years.
Were going to replace the few little weatherstrips that need replacing and might change the wheels back to the silver sawblades, but other then that it is staying stock. Now that the car is back in the family it will never never never leave again.

WOW WHAT a STORY!!! I own a exact copy of your car. [pic in my avatar]The original female owner purchased it on August 12,1991 here at Jersey shore. I love the color so the car stood out here on the island for years. After years of pestering i was able to purchase it in 2005. If you ever in Wildwood for car shows get in touch! By the way welcome to the Forum Great bunch of people here!

That is awesome. Just think if not for the roses then you probably would never have seen it again. Almost like something out of a movie.
The fact that it has been so well cared for is equally amazing.

Thanks guys, yeah if it wasnt for the roses i would have never been able to find the car. Im not a huge fan of them but its what identifies this car from others. I was shocked to see that it was in almost perfect condition after all these years, but honestly it could of been a piece of junk needing a full restoration and I would still want it back

Calvin it's always nice to read a story like that. I'm really glad for you and your father that you have that BEAUTIFUL vette back home where it belongs. I think one of the best parts of the story is the relationship you and your dad have and the passion you share for cars. Not ever father and son story is as good as yours. The best to the both of you.
PS Keep the chrome sawblades they look AWESOME on your car.
