Removed my shift indicator console(automatic) only 1 bulb but 2 sockets??
Hello I am cleaning up the interior a little and adding a new shift boot on my 88. Noticed when I lifted off the little console cover(that houses the PRND shift indicator) that there is a location for 2 light bulbs but I only have one? There is a location by the "P" which has no bulb and there is a location by the "1" where I do have a bulb? Should there be w bulbs there? Thanks in advance for the help! Nel

I took my console top off recently and noticed the same thing. No bulb in the front location. It seems to have worked OK this way for 26 years so I guess I'll leave it alone.
I have been replacing my interior bulbs with LEDs, so that could happen here.

Thank You Guys for the responses! I was ready to start tearing the car apart to look for this other bulb and wire harness I wonder what the malfunction was on that one..maybe they were trying to keep the weight down to make the car faster

I retrofitted a 4l60e into my 84 which came with a 4+3. I assumed there were 2 bulbs in the cover and wired it accordingly.

- i also thought that the same part could be used in the RHD export by just rotating the assembly 180. i've never seen a RHD console though, and do not know exactly how the console is configured - if the indicator lens is on the right or left of the shift lever. also, it very well could be that during early c4 development, it was decided that one bulb/socket was sufficient. eliminating the additional bulb/socket from C4's over the life of the program, even if it was only $1 per unit, would have saved over $350K.
