My 86 coupe had a problem like yours and like you I wanted it fixed. I did not want an after market radio. So I sent it off to Eckler's and they fixed it perfect. Yes it cost $200 but to me it was worth it.

I can remember putting in an 8-track player in my VW and I thought I was cool.

I know if you look around, you can find pics of when people first installed record players in cars.

You went from the bulk of a record player , to 8 track, to cassette, to CD and finally to Thumb Drives.
