The Old Lady Has New Shoes
I headed over to the local tire shop today to get my new BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 255/50ZR-16 tires mounted and balanced.
These are the first name brand street tires available in this stock early C4 size since the previous generation of this tire became unavailable some time in 2010.
I enclose two pictures for those who might be interested:
1) A side view so you can see how Lauren (very stock) sits with them.
2) A view of the tread pattern.

That car really needs a wing and a Toledo Pro hood along with one of those changy color paint jobs. Maybe some 20s too.
(just kidding - the tires look great!)

Thanks!
I had back-ordered the previous generation COMP from Tire Rack in 2011. I didn't expect to get them, but I figured it would be good to indicate that someone was interested in 255/50ZR16. For a while, all you could get in that size was drag radials - useful for some of us, but not for the entire Corvette market.

on getting my house ready to get tented for termites next weekend.
I'll order the new master cylinder early this week (so it arrives after
the tenting), and then it's just a matter of finding a few hours and
energy to do it. But: past experience says brand new tires are slippery,
so it will take a while to bed them in.
The prior tires were the original Goodyear Eagles (yep, 25 years old) on the front, some
Dunlops from about 10 years ago on the back. The Eagles still had
about 1/8" of tread, the Dunlops were bald, the original rear Eagles
were bald when I got the Dunlops. Dunno why it goes through rear
tires -- almost all the miles are on the freeway (rear Eagles went about
27K, Dunlops about 10K) and I don't run around lighting up the tires.
I did get both ends aligned before getting the Goodrichs.
And finally: THANK YOU GOODRICH.
Chuck

Interesting that you were able to fine BF Goodrich G Force in the right size. I tried to buy them a few months ago and they were nowhere to be found and the company did not have plans to make any more. I ended up getting Falkens and they seem to be a pretty good tire. I will find out when I get it out on the road in a few weeks.
We got 10 inches of snow this morning in northern Minnesota so I have to wait.

Reactivating this elderly thread to note that it looks like BFGoodrich has made another round of these tires—they've come off the back-order list and I ordered an extra today.

I bought a set from Walmart back in the spring. Looks like they're back in stock.

I bought tires last winter, also BFG's. Due to the issues with availability I looked for options. I went a little different route, I found some 18"x9.5" +40mm backspace rims. I then figured out 255x40zr18 tires matched the original tire placement in the fenderwells. They fit just like the oem size did on my 86 and I think they look pretty good to boot. This gives you an option in the event you cannot find or get the 255x50zr16 tires.
Just a suggestion.
