I just posted this on another topic but wanted to get a general opinion from others. Are exotic car owners that stupid or do we think our cars are faster than a V12 beast?   http://www.wreckedexotics.com/cars/l...rGUAUqZ_ph.jpg
Did you read the story? That article and photo has been posted and discussed before. The Corvette was highly modified, and the driver had several very serious violations against him before that accident. The 'Vette driver was a moron, and that's not strong enough.:mad :mad :mad
The Lamborghini had his wife in the car. I think he died, and the driver of the Volvo he ran into also died.
I went to Google and punched in "lamborghini corvette volvo wreck crash death" and got several links.
Two killed as drag racers spin out of control
OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (AP) ---- The street where a pair of drag-racing sports cars careened out of control, killing two people including an innocent motorist, is a popular spot for racing, residents say.
Sunday's wreck left the cars unrecognizable twisted lumps of metal, with debris strewn along the roadway.
Residents in this Long Island suburb said racing, and wrecks, were common on that strip of road.
"It's known for racing," resident Stu Nagel said. "Almost every week, there's an accident."
Witnesses told police that the drivers of a Lamborghini and a Corvette were speeding and weaving in and out of traffic for several blocks before the Lamborghini smashed head-on into a Volvo.
Killed in the crash were Michael Vasapolli, 30, who was driving the 2001 Lamborghini, and the Volvo's driver, Glenn Jacofsky, 43.
The Corvette, which had a vanity plate that read, "LOV2XLR8" (Love to Accelerate), lost control and hit a parked school bus, police said. Its driver, Kevin Hart, 27, was treated for minor injuries. He was charged with two counts of manslaughter and was arraigned Monday, police said.
Hart, a plumber, has three speeding convictions dating to 1991, said Lt. Detective Frank Guidice, a spokesman for the Nassau County police. "His actions contributed to the death of these other people," Guidice said.
"These cars would not have been racing if he did not consent to race," he said.
According to police, Vasapolli crossed into the northbound lanes to pass another car but could not get back into the southbound side fast enough to avoid hitting Jacofsky. Vasapolli, who worked in a family construction business in Brooklyn, had seven speeding convictions dating back to 1989.
Jacofsky's wife, Amy Jacofsky, and Vasapolli's wife, Karen Mauro, were both taken to hospitals with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

Re: Why????????????? (morphious)
seems like the lambo's driver's last name shoulda been jackofsky. Vette driver too.... Waste of cars, and most importantly, wastes of human life. At least they didnt hit a mini-van full of kids or anything. Those are the worst accidents. Been there, done that (was a member of a fire dept.)
btw, wasnt a mini van full of kids, but two kids did have to get air lifted....
I hate the way my stomach feels after seeing stuff like that. I witnessed a ricer in Orlando pack it in head first into oncoming traffic after he blew past me, then a REALLY red light. Very morbid sound, hearing an Acura 4 banger bouncing off the rev-limiter, like his foot was stuck on the gas or something. :( No use for wrecklessness.
im not promoting street racing, however i would definately say that at least 2 or more very bad wrecks just like the 2 mentioned in the article are caused by street racing every day. at least. the whole thing in that article with the fast and the furious is completely and totally rediculus. people have been racing since cars actually started having real power. and that movie most likely had little to no impact on the amount of street racing that goes on. its still stupid to street race like that, but way too many people looked to blame the movie for it. personally i dont have a problem with 2 people at a stop light punching it when it hits green as long as they shut it down before thing get out of control.

I agree 100%. I honestly don't speed on avarage. My bother always laughs when him in his NSX and I take a drive. I love hammering it to the speed limit and then backing off, he loves goining ***** to the wall. For me I love acceleration, speed makes me nervouse. Well I guess that is why he has 4 speedding tickets in less than a year, and I just got my first 1 in 12 years. :smash:
I agree as well short drags that are safe are cool but no normal person should think 80 on a city street is safe nor should anyone think that racing in traffic is fun. All that will lead to is death and I can only hope it's the drivers that die not the inocents, but sadly that is very often not the case. Most drivers that kill people end up surviving. People need to drive safe not drunk and not out of control. I don't mind fast. I will very often do 75-100 on open interstate and will even at times do 60+ on city roads but only when I know it is safe. If it daytime and I know there might be kids I very often drive under the limit. Yeah sometimes the speeding minivans full of kids give me dirty looks when they pass(the why don't you drive it like it's suppose to be driven look) but I'm not the one with the car full of kids that keeps taking her eyes off the road while speeding either. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Why????????????? (Alchemist)
Sorry to play devil's advocate here, but you guys never risk the lives of others? We take '"unnecesary" risks everyday, and the fact we buy these supercars is evidence of our tendency to cause damage to innocent bystanders. Otherwise, we'd all be driving airbagged Volvo's or minivans full o' kids too. No matter how safe we speed, someone else not paying attention could cause/allow an accident to happen... or a tire could blow out, a part could break. Ultimately, it's never in our control.
To be smart is to realize the mistakes of these two drivers. To be humble is to realize that we're not so different after all. Drive safely!
I always hate seeing pictures like this, because I had a good friend die from a street racing accident. The car he was in somehow lost control and slammed into the center divide, and caught fire. They say he died on impact, but aren't sure because of the fire. Stories like this don't really make an impact unless the story involves someone you actually know. :(
It's total BS that they are charging the vette owner with manslaughter. :mad
I can see taking his license away for a good long time, but he shouldn't do any jail time or have manslaughter on his record... that's total C RAP!! :mad
If anyone knows what happened to this guy - I would love to know... all I could find is that he pleaded not guilty and was released on 40k bail... if I was him i'd cry :cry INJUSTICE :cry
