Default My 84 Resto (LOTS of PICS)

i got this car from a fellow forum member and i'm sure most of you guys will remember seeing this car for sale. the seller and i got together and struck a deal. yesterday i drove from ohio to new york to pick the car up. the seller was an awesome guy and was super easy to work with. this car could go one of two ways and to a lot of people the car would be a part out. the car came to me with a knocking engine, water logged interior, and in need of paint. those are the major issues. but the car has fairly low miles at 90k miles and has a lot of character. the engine though knocking still runs surprisingly well. this car will drive down the street after being in a flood and having been run short on oil and having a knock. this sucker has one strong will to live!! the tires are like new, the trans has recently been rebuilt, and the car is complete. sure it needs everything and its not a 4+3, but he car has not given up and i've decided not to give up on the car. i've already ordered everything i need to rebuild the engine. that will be addressed first. i need the car operational. the next thing on the agenda is the interior. i have started cleaning it and have been drying out the seats. they are trashed and the carpet is full of stains but until i acquire a complete bronze interior it will have to do. i am converting the car from saddle to bronze interior. i do not like the saddle and find it shows dirt too easily. i will continue to update this thread with plenty of pictures and details on what's happens with each aspect of the car being fixed! no onto a few opening pics:

loading the car at Gary's place in Lindenhurst:

after Gary was nice enough to buy lunch we headed out back towards ohio:

pit stop to check the tie downs. not great light:

pit stop for gas with some better lighting:

pic from this morning. the car made if home safely last night and is currently in my garage next to my 94 6spd:

Congratulations. Make sure you change the fluid in the tranny and rearend too. They have vents.

yes i checked the trans oil and it did have water in it. i'll drop the pan and swap in a new filter and gasket set as well. i'll also be sure to drain and flush and refill the rear differential. very good advice, thank you!

Congrats and I hope this goes well for you. I'm always glad to see someone save a vette when possible. The wheels on that car look sharp and most of the time they would be the first thing I'd pitch. That style I've only seen in gold and never did like them but the black works well on that car.

I've watched (and commented on) that thread since day 1. Had that car been close to me, you'd have never got the chance.

Seriously though, glad you're giving it a second shot at life. I love the wheels....definitely keep those.

Keep us posted as you make progress.

I love to see people bring a car back to life.
I did an 84, too. (2-tone bronze) Also, an 86 Pace Car, (black)
Your's is similar to the 86 vert I revived last year. Close to the same wheels and also black. My interior was red and it really popped after installing all new pieces.
It will be interesting to see a black car with bronze guts.

Click the links in my sig to check both of my rescues.

Can't believe it took over 2 years for that car to finally get sold. Glad it's in good hands and will be put back to it's former glory! Subscribed and can't wait for updates!

thanks guys! i've already removed the seats and vacuumed and cleaned the carpets and reinstalled the seats. i have the center console and the shifter surround apart attempting to clean the plastics and source any more loose change. i think i'm over $2 now, lol. i've been cleaning every aspect of the car that i can and have been letting my son help as well. he calls this car "his Corvette". if it keeps him busy and we can spend some time together and he can learn something then we both win! i will be posting more pics today of where i'm at. i don't have much of a before pic of how the interior was when i got the car but imagine a car that was flooded up to the seats and was stocked wit spare parts. i'll post pics here as soon as i get my oldest daughter off to school!
