Default Oil pan on 87 corvette tpi

I have been in the process of restoring my 87. What started out
as a year process has turned into much longer. Anyway, I let my
oilpan sit out and it got rusted somewhat bad on the inside. I have used clr (calcium/ rust other remover). I have also used a wire wheel on my drill to help remove rust. The CLR helped but not impressed. I now have filled the inside with muratic acid( better known for swimming pools.). My question is , will any SBC oilpan work for my vette,or is this oil pan exclusive due to suspension, power steering rack etc.

Thanks in advance for help.

The Corvette engine has the oil dip stick on the R/H side.
The other SBC's are on the left.

Have it sand blasted if the acid does not work.

The muratic acid looks like it is working, but if it dosen't completely remove everything I
will take it for sandblasting, good idea. Thanks

You can also use the oil pan from any of the LT1 Corvettes up through 96.. I have a 94 oil pan on my 89 and all I had to do was buy a plug for where the oil level sensor went in the side......WW

Here's a "NEW"original GM Corvette oil pan for your car for $89.95.. That's a good price, snap it up before someone else does........WW

Original Chevy Oil Pan Part 10110837 1986 and Up Corvette and Hi Po Camaro | eBay
I dont know about the part number but that dosent look like a corvette oil pan. Camaro maybe.
Corvette oil pans are specific to Corvette. Corvette oil pans are shallower for more ground clearance. To make up the difference in oil capacity the sump goes farther forward.
If you use a regular car pan you may have to change the sump pickup tube also to match the deeper car pan.
86-96 corvette pan will work. just make sure it is for a one piece seal motor with r/h dip stick

I think you may be right, after looking at other pics of C4 pans, it's not the same.. I just deleted it so he doesn't get the wrong pan because of my suggestion..Ebay has a bunch of oil pans that say they will fit the C4 Corvette, he shouldn't have much trouble finding one.....Thanks....WW

Is year dependent
All 1 pce RMS crank engines like this one have the dipstick on pass side

The LT1 pan is physically identical to a L98 pan ( 1 pce RMS )

You can however use any reg SBC pan ( as represented by the ZZ4 pan shown ) in place of a Vette only pan so long as it is correct for the crank seal configuration
but it requires a reg SBC oil pump pickup in place of the Vette one and the pan will hang approx 3/4" lower than the Vette only pan

I have to respectfully disagree; an LT pan (and I suspect L98 pans also) are 6&7/8th inch deep at the lowest point, making them a nominal 7 inch pan when the thickness of the gasket is factored in. This is VERY shallow.

"Stock" SBC pans are more in the range of 8&1/2 inch deep; such a pan would hang down and severally reduce pan to pavement (or speed bump) clearance.

In short, I'd keep my Corvette "all Corvette"; at least in the oil pan department.

p.s. if your are concerned with rust issues. rather than sand blasting, try JASCO "METAL PREP", available in any hardware store or any other phosphoric acid based rust remover / converter such as Naval Jelly , etc. These products will work much better than muriatic acid.

To answer your question: NO. There's a thread with my ordeal of buying a new pan that was specific to my car and when I tried to install it no way! What a waste of time and money that was

I ended up restoring mine myself, welded in a new bolt and busing and sent it out for powdercoating.

DO NOT get that acid ANYWHERE near your MAGN. valve covers...very, very dangerous chemical reaction. Somehwere along the line I heard soaking that part in Coca Cola eats rust..have no idea if its true.
