Default 91 vert luggage rack, i hate it, how hard to remove

Hi,
I bought a 91 vert in show condition and i love the car with one exception THE LUGGAGE RACK. i think it looks awful. Anyone know how hard it would be to rip this thing off. How many holes to fill, costs to paint etc. I'll leave it on if it's a real hassle but i would like to lose it if possible. Any info??
Thanks!!

Your car your call, but I like the look of the luggage rack. Plus, you said show condition. Do you really want to try to fill holes and match paint on an otherwise excellent car? :D

From what I have heard body work and paint very from location to location. I would take it to a local good body shop and get an estimate. Shouldn't cost for the estimate, but it will give you a true estimate. :D Good luch, and keep us posted.

The holes would have to be filled, then the whole body panel would have to be sanded and prepped then repainted(you can't just paint the hole filling,t hat would look awful). I would say 500-1500 bucks.

Personally I'd like a rack sometimes. I can't take the car to Florida for example because I can't pack. No storage behind, its all sub box, and two passengers=no room. I have to travel in my Grand Cherokee watching other vettes drive by at the beaches. Sux.

I think the rack will defitely come in handy over time. I think it just ruins the look of the back deck though. I like that part of the car on my coupe and now something as simple as the gas tank emblem is hidden behind a row of awful looking rack bars. Does anyone here like the appearance of the rack??? I need a reason to keep it:)

Like mine a lot. Never use it though. You just have to get used to it and think of it as a rear spoiler.

I don't care for mine either but it is handy sometimes. I run my hardtop and with the soft top down you have to open the door to fart. It is really tight in there.

For the record, my brother has a 94 and the rear deck looks 40 foot long without the rack. I prefer it. However, to each his own. To remove rack, lift plastic inserts from the top of each runner. Screws are accessible from there. I believe I counted 16 when mine was removed to have the car re-painted. :seeya

I’ve installed them and there are 16 holes to fill.
I have one on my 92 and I love it.
It comes in real handy when you’re traveling. I like the looks of mine; it’s a black rack on a dark green car so it doesn't stand out.
It’s not as noticeable as it would be on a light colored car.

I like the looks of mine too. When I was shopping for this one, All the roadsters without the luggage rack, to me, look like there azz was huge.I think the rack breaks up the rear deck and I like the look.

SURE YOU CAN! Pack whatever you need. What doesn't fit in the car, take it to the friendly USPS / FEDEX or UPS and ship it to your destination. Same thing on the return trip. There's also trailer hitches for Corvettes, too! If a motorcycle can tote a wagon, a Corvette sure can!!! :yesnod: :yesnod:

I'd like to see a picture of one of these racks installed on a C4 convertible.

Here is mine.

As far as taking it off, its pretty simple. Just pull the vinyl strips out and remove the screws. Then go to the body shop and get a estimate on filling the holes and repainting.
