1984 vett wont start when hot

Default 1984 vett wont start when hot

My 1984 vett wont start when hot and when i turn the key the dash light wont light up headlight and horn will still work but no power on the dash till it cools down. car has new battery new starter and new alternator. need your help thanks

thanks for the reply what it dose is when i go to start it its like the car is dead, wont crank or fire up no power to the dash but yet the headlights and horn still work after i let the car cool down it starts right up

Replace the ignition control module...... apply the proper insulating grease.

could also be your starter solenoid getting heat soaked. I had thie issue with mine, and I put on a Summit-branded min-starter. I haven't had it again.
Those big GM starters sit really close to the exhaust.

is that a hard thing to locate? kind of a novice my dash lights up but starter will not turn over

You might want to check the starter, I found and few of my C4 buddies experience when the car is hot, you get no start, cause the starter is hot and seized up, once it's cool down, it starts like there wasn't anything wrong.
I would say if that what your car does, when it's hot,no start, and when cold starter cranks, that's were I would look to get diagnosed.
I replaced my starter when it occurred and put heat shield on it so it would never happen again. That was over 20 years ago, still cranking strong.
