Default Help in locating Radio Antenna Relay in '87 Convertible

I have a radio antenna that will not extend. I have the system diagnosis steps from the Electrical Diagnosis Manual for 1987. In order to perform these steps I have to be able get to and disconnect the connector from the Antenna Relay. The manual says its located on the LH side of cargo compartment, above rear of wheelhouse. Ok so the cargo comparment is fully carpeted and glued down. Shy of tearing up the carpet is there an access point I should be looking for? (p.s. I know my fuses are good as I have radio power and my courtesy lights operate, so that leaves an open wire problem, relay problem or antenna motor) Thanks in advance for help in this. CAB

Remove the rear hatch trim. It is under that.

Under that black plastic trim piece that extends along the back of the car. Just unscrew the 7 or 8 screws. Be careful not to over tighten when re-assembly, it'll crack the plastic

Are you sure it's glued down. My 88 is just moulded in shape and pulls back easily

Mine is buried in the foam rubber next to the hatch release mechanism:

Oops. Missed that.

I have heard that the antenna relay is in the rear corner of the rear compartment on the passenger side, behind the carpet. I don't have a convertible, so I have no way to verify that.

Left side, at wheel well.
Just raised the deck lid, and pull back the carpet, mine was tight, and not glued, it's hard to pull out, and you will see the antenna wire, and relay wires. that raises and lowers the antenna, also if you replace your antenna and follow the wire to the grommet that goes though the wheel well to replace the antenna assembly.

Default Help in locating Radio Antenna Relay in '87 Convertible

To all of the posts to my thread, thank you. I have not had the opportunity to check out the locations mentioned. But, I think most of the replies are re a hatchback vs. a convertible. The Service Manual states there are differences in locations of items between the two.
I will ask the question again: Where is the radio antenna relay located on a 1987 convertible?? I don't think there is a trim panel on a convertible. Thanks, CAB

Here is picture of my old Corvette, yes I had convertible and I'm telling you, open deck lid, and pull the carpet away from edge of the left side of the car, and you will see the antenna wire and electric wires running to the the replay.
