I decided to scrap the Tilton Triple 5.5" disk clutch and the POS Tilton starter for a McLeod Twin Disk and a Powermaster Super Torque starter. While the tranny and the rest of the driveline was out, it was an excellent opportunity to replace the Batwing bushings with poly bushings.
After the clutch is done, the tie-rods will be replaced, than aligned, and corner weighed/balanced, and I be ready for CAMming this year.
Oh, by the way, I saved 40 pounds by removing the OEM instrumentation and related components. I should weigh around 3,000 pounds if not in the 2990 range with running only two gallons of fuel. I was at 3033 before the instrument panel work.
Unfortunately, the clutch work kept me from CAMming in San Diego this coming weekend but, I will make up for it.
Since, the CAMming season is upon us now, I will have to wait until the next off season for more weight reduction projects such as a custom fuel tank.

Thanks for the compliment. I've been detailing cars for years. Kind of a fun side job/hobby. I sometimes even surprise my self with how stunning some of the jobs turn out. This one is really turning out to be a show stopper. Original paint. Never touched until now. It's very time consuming, but I'm very happy with the way it is turning out. A few more fun pics. Alway fun to share what we are doing with our cars.
Yes it actually looks better in person. Black is stunning when it's polished to perfection. I'll be ceramic coating it when I'm satisfied with the paint correction. That it will be easy to maintain

Cold out today but nice with salt free roads. Had to go out to one of my job sites but figured because it was Saturday I would take the vette for a nice smooth cruse up the pike!

Adjusted my hood so it actually closes when I drop it. One of those stupid annoyance things you always put off.
Also reverse bled the clutch system. Last year I replaced the clutch hydraulics and started to notice the shifts fighting me. I used the Phoenix Systems reverse bleed kit to get the air out. Probably overpriced for a bunch of plastic but they have a patent on it so not much of choice there. At least it works really well from my one use and now I can shift easy. I guess I have an overpriced brake bleeder too!

Got it on the road for the first time in seven, yes seven years, a few days ago. Having a brake hang up now, but I'm sorting that out and hope to have it resolved this week.

Took the car for a nice long drive, up a nice canyon at high speed, put some nice load on the new torque converter.
I also watched as my car sucked up some leaves, and a little garbage...
I need to build some sort of screen protector up front, i have a lot of fluids flowing up front...

Repaired my 1986 atari digital dash
Removed my digital dash that had faded polarizing film and burned out bulbs. I got the film kit from batee.com and used the excellent youtube videos that he has to step by step complete the repair. This is no small job and I would say not for a beginner ... but if you are handy and can follow instructions ... not so bad.
Getting to the LCD panels requires removing every component above it. Getting the old film and glue off took me 2 hours. Another hour to put the new film on and trim it. Putting it back together is tedious because the pink conductive foam pads for the LCD were deformed from years of compression and they need to be coaxed back into their slots.
I was prepared to replace my header pins and socket but they were bright and shiny. I buffed the pins up with a brass wire wheel dremel and carefully inspected my power supply for burnt components and cold solder ... all OK. One very important caveat, be exceedingly careful not to disturb the wheels on the odometer or else the tamper indicator will trigger. Replaced all the halogen burned out lamps with cooler running xenon bulbs. Got it all together and took it out to the car and tested it ... All OK. It was dark and cold outside so I'll finish getting my dash back together tomorrow.

Re-Covered Rear Speaker Grill
The rear speaker grills were looking ragged so decided to rebuild and re-cover them. Here's what one of them looked like before:
Stripped off the old grill cloth, repaired the busted up grill with Plastex, made a template for the new grill cloth (used weed control ground cover) and cut it, then used spray adhesive to tack it down. Ta da!
