I used to get such a great wet black gloss on my tires. lately it's nothing more then just a haze. I bought some Barret Jackson spray this weekend and it was so weak. I expected more. I tried the gel with simular not great results. What do you use to get that car dealer black? I have about $40 invested in crap.

Depends on what level of finish you want... a soft satin finish thru a high gloss reflective and shiny black?
A water-based finish or a silicone based finish?
Opted to go with a concentrated finish - to be diluted as needed called PERL.

Melting Slicks
I like a satiny finish on my sidewalls and most retail products do this no problem, while nourishing the rubber. I use whatever's on sale, usually Armor All tire shine or similar. I'm not super fussy about it because I don't show the car -- I'm happy if the sidewall looks dark black and good condition. Also I cut out a 17" cardboard circle to cover the wheels and keep overspray and cleanup to a minimum.
The long-lasting high gloss tire treatments will dry stiff like clear spray paint which I don't think is a good idea.

I use the Armor All product applied to an old wax pad and rubbed onto the tire.

Armor All.
Saturate an Eagle One tire swipe with Armor All and apply to surface of tire. No need to worry about overspray on your rims. The Eagle One swipe is concave, makes it easy to apply whatever product you use on the tire. The swipes last for years!

I don't care for the dripping wet - overly glossly, shiney look. I use stoners tire dressing with a damp rag wipe down. pretty much give the tires a clean, new, factory look.

I have tried a bunch of them.
I hate the ones that leave a residue on the tires so that if you touch them a black slime rubs off on your hands, pants, or whatever touches it.
I used to use Armor All but they changed their formula. I would spray it on a paper towel and then wipe the tires. It left a clean satin finish. The newer formula is almost a white gel that just lays on a paper towel without soaking in. It also leaves more residue on the tire that comes off when touched.
The best I have found recently is 303 Aerospace Protectant. It is a lot like the old Armor All and leaves a clean satin finish. It also works well on other plastic and vinyl trim.

The important thing is to use something water based. Yes you'll have to apply more often but the petroleum based products attract dirt and damage the rubber over time.

For that reason...and the fact I prefer satin, not gloss, black for my tires.....I use old style Armor All or STP Son of a Gun. Lasts about 4-5 months.

Stoners more shine is the best stuff out there. They sell it at the big box stores.
Buy it and you'll never look back

tire dresssing
I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. It protects the rubber, and does not collect dust. It gives the tire a new look. Great product, and have been using it for all my vehicles including my RV for years.
