1996 Interior Door Lamp Question???
Been searching but haven’t found any answers.
The FSM notes two lights for the door.
No. 212 for the Door Courtesy
No. 73 for the Door Handle Flood
Where is the No. 73 bulb, Door Handle Flood, located?
The 212 bulb is a festoon style and is under the clear plastic cover above the door handle lever. The FSM shows that (sort of) in figure 24.
The removal instruction for the Door Courtesy/Flood Lamp (Figure 24) note says that there are two bulbs.
“Replacement Bulb:
Courtesy, Trade No. 212-2, 6 Candlepower,
Flood, Trade No. 73.”
The No. 73 bulb is a Wedge Base.
I’ve had the door apart before to work on replacing sweeps but I don’t remember seeing any other bulb in there other than the 212 festoon style under the plastic cover.
Is this an error in the FSM? It is also noted in the Owner’s Manual for the 96.
Any input is greatly appreciated and thanks for reading.

Is that the one you are talking about? Mine fell out and I only noticed it because the passenger door was the only one that had amber light when the headlights were on it just twists in

OK, that was interesting. Too bad the original pictures are not in the link. I will take it apart and do a closer inspection of the door lamp assembly to see where the No. 73 bulb is hiding.
GM should have just skipped the bulb section in the FSM since they did such a half A$$ job on it. Other than giving you the bulb number, there is no information on changing it in the owner’s manual even though it’s not noted as a dealer service item.

If memory serves it did lol I would go check but the wife went out for a little mothers day getaway I can double check in the morning but I want to say ya, it's easy to pop that cover off just don't be too forcefull......putting it back is a bit of a pain felt like it would break pretty easy and the wires connecting the unlit bulb were short so when I put it back where it belongs it didn't give much room to work with

Small flat screw driver under the edge at the top of the lens has two small tabs and the lens pops out no need to take anything else apart. As Jbaz stated be careful and take your time. You may also want to put tape on the screwdriver blade so as not to scratch anything.

NP - I've found quite a few excellent older threads with original pictures missing - let us know when you get the bulb sorted - maybe grab a couple pictures to add to this thread in the event someone else is digging someday and comes across it.

@We Gone and Jbaz,
Thank you. This was very helpful. A little different than my 96 (I think) but with this pic and the one from Jbaz I found the little No. 73 bulb. I will add some pictures when I do the bulb change once my LED's arrive.
Again, Thanks to all for your insight and help. What a great group of members on this forum.

OK here is a pic of the two inside door handle bulbs: (from 95/96 but may be the same for 93/94 or earlier)
Bulb No. 212 for the Door Courtesy lamp (festoon style) Orange notes
Bulb No. 73 for the Door Handle Flood lamp (plug style) Yellow notes
Door Handle Flood:
Twist the bulb housing and remove it from the lamp assembly and then pull the small No. 73 bulb from the housing.
Door Courtesy:
Carefully pry one edge of the bulb up and out of the clip. After the bulb cools down it can be removed.
Replace bulbs and reverse the procedure.
Thanks to all who provided pics and help.
