Default Identifying Suspension Springs

C-1 guy again:

How does one identify the type of mono leaf springs they have in their front and rear ends? I bought the front and rear end suspension assemblies from 2 different cars and they are apart right now. I'll be using them in my Corvette Correction frame build. I want to avoid having soft and stiff at opposite ends.

Thanks,

Black60

Were the front suspensions from similar year cars? '84 - '87 OR '88+ cars? If they're from similar year cars then they should be dimensionally very similar in visible appearance. If you had one early and one late they wouldn't share a visibly similar length. You asked about I believe a '93 front recently SO MAYBE you have a front from it and a rear some something that's different. No multiple choices, just a single front and a single rear?

The rears are dimensionally all the same.

There are letter codes on all OE/GM production springs. It's on the end of each spring on the bottom and is very visible 3/8" letters. Post the letter codes you have and what year you believe yours are from.

I thought all the springs also had a color coding dot on them?

The front suspension is from a '93. The bottom left hand side of the spring shows a letter code of "FHA". The roll bar dia is .950 inches or 24.11 MM. I do not have the rear apart but it's from a '90.

Whose chassis are you using that you've decided to use C4 transverse springs? It's pretty expensive to try and change spring rates after the build when using transverse. Very expensive!

Does your spring have a "square pedestal" on either end of the spring where it sits on the control arm OR does it just have a molded pad on the bottom where it rests on the control arm?

Square pedestal where it rests on the lower A arm. Do you recognize the code?

As my original thread asked, is this the standard suspension spring or the stiffer (Z-51?) option.

Thanks

I don't know how I overlooked the reference to Billy Dawson's product in your original post but that explains the use of the transverse. The spring is from a base car and is confirmed by the bar diameter.

You might want to discuss the use of the later spring with the pedestal with Billy.

You do NOT need to disassemble the rear to get the code. It will be very visible on the spring assembled.

*** I saw your post in a different thread and thought I'd add some possible information for yours. I use the MVMA specs published by GM and assume they're reliable. Are they? Maybe.

'93 base that match your build are RATE 73.4 (649.7), @ WHEEL 24.0 (212.4) N/mm (lb/in)
