Black ring around antenna

I just got in from my barn, but I will check tomorrow if I saved mine or threw it out last summer when I filled mine in before painting and hid an antenna inside the back bumper. I'll check in the a.m. and let you know. Mine is an 85, but should be the same.

An '84 - '87 antenna bezel (black trim) will work for your car. GM part number to use for reference when shopping the Corvette vendors would be 14047162. If "cohocarl" doesn't find his maybe "sea4parts" for a used one.

here you go -

not sure if the $14 (shipped) price is in line, but it sure beats the NOS part listed at $55.

I replaced my original antenna with a later model assembly, but I'm fairly sure the flange you're talking about is threaded, and there is a large plastic retainer (part #4). as I remember it looks like this -
you will have to remove the antenna, or at least drop it down for this repair....
the later top flange on later antenna assemblies just snaps into place.

84-87 antenna designs differ from the 88-92 assemblies. "apples and oranges" mounting - not sure what you have. any chance of getting a pic from the bottom side?
really have got to ask - what are you trying to do or accomplish - repair, replace, missing parts, ???

again, what are you trying to accomplish? repair, replace, or what?anything associated with the upper trim bezel, and the antenna most likely has to come out, or at least lowered to the point where you clear the antenna mast from the trim bezel. we really need to establish if you have an early design antenna, or a later, or retrofit assembly.

I don't see anything missing. It looks just like my 86. It appears the car was repainted and it wasn't removed prior to painting. Looks likes paint got under the masking.

most likely you have the stock configuration. as far as the silvery color thing, it could be your bezel is just somewhat weathered. maybe it just needs some plastic conditioner. if your antenna works, and nothing is loose, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I repainted mine black with a small brush.

Looks a bit like my 86, except the car is blue.

thanks for posting this!
thanks for posting this! on my $650 86 4+3 this is something that I need to fix. I purchased the rubber grommet used and was wondering how to shove it down in the hole. I see now that I must drop The antenna mast from inside the car and then put the grommet in and then push the antenna mast back up into the rubber. Does that sound right to you guys?
vancity here some photos that may help u get oriented. though, I think we're missing different parts!
maybe these will help others that find your thread in the future.
rubber grommet.
keyed for position.
from this thread I think I have learned I need to drop the mast but the grommet in keyed in the right location and then push the mast back up into the bottom of the grommet. Thanks guys!

cliff - has your 86's antenna ever been upgraded to a later style, or is it OE? I replaced my 85's, and the factory grommet went from a hard ABS type (with screw retainer) to the later push in, rubber grommet, as shown in VT3's pics. I show the rubber grommet being for 1988-1996 cars. seems to me, the later, retrofit types, the top of the antenna mast just pushes in, and is held captive by the rubber grommet -
note the top of the mast - as I remember, it just pushes into the rubber grommet which is held captive by the body panel. differs from my 85's original assembly.
BTW, if anyone is looking for an NOS, early C4, hard plastic ABS type, I have one - PM me...
