Default OBC help needed 1990 convertible

I have the dreaded seat belt/inflatible restraint light problem. I have access to a OBC 2 reader which can reset codes. I just got a adapter cable to allow it to work with OBC 1 receptacles.

My question is where is the OBC receptacle, I went thru the service manual and it was unclear where it's located.

thanks in advance

I don't believe it will work but look under the drivers side dash. Look on youtube it can be done with a paper clip.

I'm guessing you're referring to "OBD", yes? Anywayz, the connector is actually attached to the driver's side hush panel, along the bottom edge near the corner - about where your right knee is.

I don't believe an OBD-2 scanner is going to work, far as resetting codes, etc., unless it has dual (OBD-I & OBD-2) capabilities (as some - like mine - do). But, un-plugging one of the battery terminals for 30 seconds or so will reset ALL of the codes (and radio pre-sets too).

OBD2 specific scanners will not connect!! you will need a OBD1 scanner. Or the free paperclip/shortout terminal method. Or 2nd free option pull a cable from the battery that requires radio and or other memory re-sets.

Unfortunately you were correct my OBD2 didn't work. I am borrowing a OBD1 from a friend.

thanks

I don't believe the SIR (MY '90) can be done with any scanner. I don't recall there being any procedures in the '90 FSM for even the Tech1. I believe all of the diagnostics and code clearing is done through the ALDL with jumpers and resetting grounding through the ALDL to good known chassis grounds.

The '90 DERM was a 'one year' only and I don't believe that any of the later adapters etc. were ever stated as being capable or compatible to do SIR for a '90.

** I believe the later Tech1 cartridge and a specific adapter will do a '90. I researched this I believe several years ago and don't recall some of it but here's a link to my comments at the time. Are they correct? I've never tried to do a '90 with the adapters and cartridge mentioned.
