2016 Camaro SS vs C4 / C4 ZR-1

I'm not a fan of the 5th gen Camaro but this 6th Gen. I would buy one.
You guys saying a stock C4 can keep up. Your nuts. I think about the only "racing" event I would have a chance is auto-x and even then this new SS is a BA car and quite capable of handling very good. Its very sports car like even if it is heavy.
C4's are old, fun, but old. Stop making exuses for an old car. Just enjoy it. If you want to go faster buy a newer one. C5Z's are VERY capable and still quite fast not to mention affordable. Shoot I've seen a few C6Z's in the mid 30K range.
Not that any of this matters MOST "sports/sporty/muscle" car owners are blow hards who talk a lot of trash but never actually use there car so this is purely academic for the most part.

I don't think I am a noob PLRX considering I used to race a third generation Camaro Z28 at the dragstrip in the late 80s and oh yeah I am 53 years of age. My Camaro use to beat most Grand Nationals, Mustangs and Eat IROC Z28s. With me and a cage my third gen was 3640 lbs. very heavy, but it had high HP. So power to weight rules in a drag race. The ZR1s were 405hp and 3400 or so lbs no driver so against an SS it might be a close race if the ZR1 is in great shape with new tires.
I also don't believe a STOCK 2016 SS Camaro will get in the 11s. 450hp and 3600 to 3700 lbs no driver does not add up to 11s.
By the way I do like the new Camaro SS very much (not a hater).

Tires, and chassis design have come leaps and bounds since the c4s were new.
The new C7s by the way can run down into 11.3s bone stock. The GS, and base C6s before it could hit 11.90s. The new ZO6s are running into mid 10s bone stock.
It's astounding what cars are doing today.
Also to people saying "well the C4 will out corner it!" I'm not so sure on that one either tim...they grip at .97 G, and have vastly superior brakes that won't fade 2 corners in like a C4 does.

The Camaro is just as comfortable on road trips as the Vette.
The Camaro makes a much better daily driver too.
And oh yes, it is every bit as fast as the Vette.
Add corning into the mix, and yes, the stock C4 can hang with the new Camaros. Hell. I was right there at the finish racing a 15 year pro in his own car, while I only had less than a year experience. Watch the video and then say I can't win that race with more experience.I will beat that Camaro this season, trust me. And I will post the video of it when I do.
Your little one or two lap so called race does not prove anything.
After about 4 laps on a road course, a 1LE or Z/28 Camaro will be so far ahead of you, you won't see them.
Even a base level SS will slowly be pulling away from you.
http://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racin...l#post19083430 Believe it. The factory's conservative 1/4 runs are 12.2s.

The 5th Gen is a damn good performance car.
But the new 6th Gen raises the bar even higher.

Yea, i'm not seeing much of a comparison here.
20+ years of engineering advancement in powertrain, chassis, suspension, brakes, steering, controls.......The list keeps going.
Love my c4 for it's looks and sentimental value, but beyond that i'd trade it in an instant for new technology such as the '16 SS.

I never called you specifically a nOOb.
I posted "Some nOObs in here want to believe there is a slightly chance for a 30-20 year old underpowered Corvette to beat a brand new Camaro "
No need to get BUTT-HURT or to feel like a nOOB if are not. Plenty of nOOb read it, but only you got offended.

Now regarding BUTT-HURT, we had a guy in here sometime ago, and your surgery was nothing compared to the BUTT-HURT he displayed in here.

I remember that instance of butt hurt very well. Trust me, this is nothing like that was. You see, there was this old hippie from south of Barstow.....but I digress.
My wife bought a 2015 Camaro V6 new last summer. I am amazed at how it runs. It will easily outrun a stock L98 or Crossfire, and an LT1 C4 might have it's hands full if it's 2.73 geared and stock. The SS Camaro will spank any stock C4 ten ways from Sunday. I love the C4 Corvette....it's one of my favorite cars of all time....but it's old. Nothing wrong with being old....hell, we all get there if we're around long enough....but technology has come a long way in 20+ years. A new minivan can outrun a stock Crossfire C4. Yeah....that hurts a bit, but it's life. Compare apples to apples. I loved owning a C4, and don't discount the idea that there may be another one in the stable some day....but I appreciate them for what they are, and don't harbor any illusions of being able to run with the new stuff.

If you buy the SS I think you'll love it. I as at the dealer, and it got to the point I started to get dirty looks from the employees there because I technically opened and inspected every inch of the car. The other positive item is that it can carry 4 passengers, and a trunk. yes, a great DD indeed.

Obviously, certain new cars will totally own my c4.. But I LOVE surprising the remaining 90% of the new cars out there..
I just love when there's a guy next to me in his 2014+ non "M" BMW / non amg benz that thinks hes going to punk me and fails. I especially like the non turbo porsches..

This one big reason why I bought my C4 LT1 M6 and enjoy it so much. It is a lot of fun to drive, reliable, and got one in good shape so haven't had any problems. I appreciate what it is, and I know what it is not. There are some good driving roads nearby that this car was built for, and it's a real pleasure. People sometimes want to race me but I don't, it is not safe on public roads. I do think about it. And when I'm confident I can beat them, I really want to, but I just don't. Besides I don't want to end up in a ditch with a wrecked toy just because I entered a pissing contest with a teenager.

A guy I know had a stock 2011 SS, we were neck and neck. Serious. Then he put a massive cam, FAST intake manifold, and LT's We ran again for fun, he was gone! But yea, this one is basically a C7 with a few more pounds.

After looking at more youtube vids, I dont like this 16' SS 100%. The back end looks square and cheap but the inside looks high end finally. The front looks angry and cool. But overall, the new Camaro looks boxy. I'm sure it drives like a dream. I hope to test drive one soon. The new Mustang GT350 is probably a better deal for the money-and I've never owned a Ford-don't like the back sides of the Mustang how it swoops down -- looks like a family sedan looking at the back sides. I imagine the GT350R is the top of the heap but price point and availability is the concern.

Nothing beats the comfort of late model C4 Seats (1990-1995), especially C4-ZR-1 Seats. Maybe the most comfortable Seats ever in the history of Sports Cars.
