Default Batwing to gear cover leak

Hello all I'm new to this forum and need some advice.
I have 96 d36 installed in my car. I have very slight leak at batwing to rest gear deal. Can I simply remove batwing install sealer and new gasket and then reverse?? Sure many have done this repair but I would like to know the better way to do it. I do have access to a lift for this repair.
Thanks

So long as you have access to a lift and a tall support for the differential you should have no trouble accomplishing a reseal. You don't mention if you actually have an IRS using the rear leaf so you'll need to determine your specific needs from there.

You know that this is a failure of the cover to differential? Your favorite RTV is the generally accepted product cover to differential. Clean and dry of both surfaces is important and make sure the vent is clear.

If this is in an "other than" IRS and you could stand the differential in a bucket it might be easier to accomplish.

Thanks for your help. It is its. 96 c4 transplanted in another car. I will use your advise and use no gasket, only rtv if that is correct.

You'll need to remove all suspension components attached to the batwing.

Jack, and hold in place the pumpking, loose the batwing from the frame, and the plate's bolts.

Let it drain, lower the differential until the batwing clears off the frame.

Remove, clean, use new gear oil RTV, install, torque to specs, and sequence.

I let the RTV cure for 24 hours.

Fill up with recommended gear oil, and 4oz of LSD additive.

DO NOT USE AN IMPACT GUN.

I included two lines of silk thread around the internal circumference.
A trick used when joining crankcase half's on small aircraft engines.

Is that a sewing type thread? Wrapped around the cover bolts after they are all started correct?

I don't know that one. Could you describe the procedure in more detail?

My differential leaked when my car was new. The dealer told me the factory used RTV. They put a gasket in there. I've never had a problem since.

.

Yes, you can buy a gasket for the D44. I've done this three times with gear oil RTV only, and never had a problem.
